Steve Inskeep guest co-hosting on the News Hour tonight.

NH seems to be auditioning replacements for the late Gwen Ifel. Inskeep was on tonight and I think he is the best so far. If he was interested in taking the job full time, I say give it to him. Maybe it’s just that he’s so familiar to me from NPR but I like him a lot.

Back tonight. Would co-hosting PBS News Hour be considered an upgrade from NPR Morning Edition?
Anyone disagree? Anything about Inskeep that I don’t know?

I have no clue as to which is more desirable. Ifill moderated presidential debates and Inskeep has not, if that is an indicator.

I have always enjoyed his approach on radio, but it is almost weird to watch him enunciate and gesture as he does it on TV. It’s distinctive - I haven’t the words right now to articulate why. More storyteller-y?

One thing I’ve always noticed about Inskeep on Morning Edition is that he interrupts guests to fill in details for listeners that may have just arrived from distant galaxies and have no clue what’s going on here on Earth.
(Guest) “Today Trump declared on Twitter that the media is unfair to him.”
(Inskeep) “Let me stop you there to let our listeners know that Trump is a New York real estate tycoon that was recently elected POTUS.” “Twitter is…”
I understand it, yet it annoys me.

Yes! Inskeep’s interviewing style is incredibly annoying. I find myself yelling at the radio “Let him finish!” every time he interrupts someone.
