Ok, I’m sorry but this is driving me crazy. I was excited when I heard that Steve Irwin was doing a voice in Happy Feet, albeit a small part. So when I went to watch it, I was listening intently to the part where the elephant seals spoke, knowing he did one of their voices. But what? None of them sounded anything like him! Not even just the voice, but the accents were different from his too. Am I crazy? Did they take his voice out at the last minute?
I can’t answer your question because I slept through most of the movie (not a comment on the film…I was just really tired and had no business being at the movies), but I don’t think they would have taken him out. That’d be a terrible thing to do. You’re dead now, bye bye? No, I doubt it. One of these days I’ll have to see it again.
Speaking of the film, I have an inkling as to why it’s doing SO well at the box office, beyond it being a decent movie (I assume). I was on the train and I heard some teenagers talking about how they told their parents they were going to see Happy Feet but ducked into Borat instead. One mentioned that his girlfriend did it, then another one said “Oh yeah, everyone I know did that too, you just buy a ticket to Happy Feet so you can show your parents.” I snickered and they looked over at me but I pretended I was laughing at what I was reading.
I loved it. The soundtrack is wonderful too. A lot of people seem to have a problem with all the sexual references and innuendo in the movie since it’s a kids movie. But seriously, if your kid is GETTING the references and such, the movie’s the least of your worries
I noticed almost ALL of those innuendo. Doesn’t matter if the kid gets em or not. Inappropriate
Bullshit.
Vapid deodorized goody-goody movies make my teeth hurt. Even as a kid I couldn’t stand them. As a parent, we just don’t have them. I need something I can watch with my kids and relate to, and it’s not going to be trash. It’s going to be something we can all enjoy on our own levels, like The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Finding Nemo and Happy Feet - all of which contain elements for the parents that (rightly enough) fly right over the little one’s heads.
That is exactly what my 14 year old did with her friend. I guess it’s better than what I did when I was her age.
I haven’t seen Borat, but is it really something its important that teenagers not see?

Only if you consider male full frontal nudity and fist shaped dildos “for placing in the ay-noose” something it’s important that teenagers not see.
Where is Cunctator when you need him? He played on the soundtrack - you can look for a thread he started entitled something like “anyone in the U.S. see the movie Happy Feet yet?”…
On IMDB, there are two people listed as doing the voice of “Kev”, Steve and somebody else.
I haven’t seen the film yet. It doesn’t open here until Boxing Day. I don’t know anthing more than what is on the IMDB site (as mentioned by xizor). Steve Irwin is listed as the voice of a character called Kev.
A simple “no” would have sufficed.

I didn’t notice that before…The seals don’t call each other by name so there’s no way to tell who’s who.
So noone else has seen the movie and can help out? Am I the only one? Am I crazy?
There’s three listed. When they first come upon them, there’s two to the right of screen, and one to the left. The one on the left is Tiriel Mora. Of the two on the right, the leftmost one in Steve, and the therefore must be Nicholas McKay, whom I’m not familar with. That’s my take.

But he sounds NOTHING like Steve Irwin. The accent is different and everything. And now the fact that Kev is listed twice on IMDB with two different voice actors… I really think they pulled his voice at the last minute…
Sounds like him to me on his first line, but I agree, subsequent lines not so much.
I’m Australian, btw, if that counts for anything.
