King was also refreshingly self-deprecating
about his own work, joking, ``I’ve always
thought that somebody’s going to come along
and say, `You must give back (your money) . .
. This is trash, and you must give it back.’ ‘’
What are his future plans? ``I'm 53,'' he said.
``And Alzheimer's awaits at some point.''
I met Stephen King in a restaurant in Bangor ME when I was in the Air Force. I was reading a copy of Needful Things at the time and had it with me. He autographed it (too bad it was a paperback and not a hardback!) and chatted with me for about 5 minutes. He came across as a really nice guy.
I opened the book to read the inscription when I got back to my table. He had written, "To Ron, I spent many hours writing this book and have enjoyed myself doing so. I hope you don’t think it sucks. Stephen King
PS. Have you gotten to the part where Alan dies yet?"
