Stevie Wonder sees more than we think!

This is probably the wrong forum, but did I just read that Stevie Wonder just performed in Quebec City, which is probably more concerned with the dozens that just died in a freak train explosion, and upstaged himself by boycotting the State of Florida because of the Trayvon Martin murder case?

I don’t know what you’ve been listeneing to, Mr. Wonder, but you must be blind. I mean, come on, Steverama, I’ve been a fan of yours my whole life, so why did you have to go and taint my opinion by injecting yourself into a controversial murder case, not to mention your recent posturing of your anti-Jewishness. If only I had the forthcoming links! They would be damning I tell you! With a nod toward Arlo Guthrie, this looks like another case of blind justice!

This definitely looks like the wrong forum now.

He “injected himself into controversy” because that’s what celebrities do. This is news?

Anti-Jewishness?
Is this something recent, that I obviously didn’t hear about because who cares, really?

Paul McCartney’s coming back to Quebec soon, too. Something about the city’s anniversary. It’s one of the oldest cities in North America.

Basically, I’m working near there and I’m bored, so I listen to local radio a lot.

I wondered about that, too, and I’m guessing the OP is referring to this, his pulling out of a fundraising benefit for the Israeli Defense Force.

Put this in mind when hearing of Wonder’s political beliefs:
From Wikipedia

The IDF holds fundraisers? Does Mossad have bake sales?

They save money by never paying retail for their weapons.

Sigh. There were lots pod murders of kids younger than Martin in the last 18 months and I haven’t heard Wonder say or do anything. He seemed like a sound guy too.

Pod murders? They’re among us!

“Boycotting” Florida is Wonder’s way of protesting the “Stand Your Ground” law, which he believes is the reason for Zimmerman’s acquittal. That IDF deal has to do with Israel’s “apartheid” situation.

Seems to me he’s punishing his fans in those regions while everybody else is rolling their eyes as they fail to give a crap.

Stevie added that he wouldn’t perform in ANY state that had SYG laws.

IIRC, there are at least 31 states (including Stevie’s home state of California) with SYG laws and a few more talking about adding it. I guess Stevie is planning on retiring.

There’s a huge difference between being critical of Israel and “anti-Jewishness.” Lots of Jews are critical of Israel.

The LIBI Fund, probably. Like the USO, but with less of an emphasis on musicians and comics.

Heck, lots of Israelis are critical of Israel, but that’s okay since it’s a democracy and all.

Somehow, I suspect that Florida’s economy won’t be reeling because Stevie Wonder cancelled the Miami stop on his tour.

I thought he had died years ago, actually. Perhaps I was thinking of Ray Charles.

Stevie doesn’t really “tour” much any more and mostly just plays one-off shows here and there as he feels like it. I don’t think he’ll have any problem avoiding any states he’d like to stay away from while still packing them in in the other 19.

Not raising money for the Israeli Defense force is now considered anti-Jewishness?

I would pull out, too. The only military I fund is my own, through my tax dollars, and reluctantly at that. And if you are for “peace” you wouldn’t want to FUND A MILITARY either. It has nothing to do with Israel or hating Jews or any such thing. It’s just, I’d want my donation dollars to go to someplace I consider worthy, as does Mr. Wonder.

I didn’t even know Stevie Wonder was alive any more, but I will continue not going to see him.

He is only 63 years old, not exactly old and feeble. Celebrities and politics, meh

White message board poster disagrees with political views of black musician. Stop the presses.
