Stand up to Cancer

Damn, Stevie Wonder’s voice is completely shot. Sad.

Yep, Twicks, I noticed that, too, and it didn’t help that his duet partner (don’t know who she was) was completely out of synch with his style. Kinda painful.

This was a strange show all the way through, pacing wise. A great cause, of course, and star-studded in interesting way; lots of well-known folks manning the phones. It was a real logistical challenge for the cameramen, with walking and talking panning, and then cutting away to the musicians playing. It seemed like a mish-mash in real need of a more talented director. Especially at the end, when the researchers featured were marched out on stage hurriedly, not really given their due before the next musical act was on.

I guess it was a whole lot to coordinate, especially being on multiple networks. Great cause, and I hope it raised a lot more money. The projects that the Stand Up to Cancer organization has funded looked groundbreaking in a cooperative effort.

I’m not watching this, but I’m surprised to hear Stevie’s having vocal problems. He sounded fine this summer at the White House tribute to Paul McCartney. See We Can Work It Out and Ebony and Ivory. I mean, he’s older and the pipes aren’t as flexible, but I wouldn’t call 'em shot. Is it possible it’s just an off night?
