100 Years of Hope

I watched the last half of the tribute to Bob Hope last night. Looked mostly good. although there was no really new information. It was amazing to see how long he has been doing/had been doing this schtick, and it was really fascinating to watch the act through the years.

Only annoyance was during the cut-aways. They went to various industry and entertainment figures for comments about their experience with Bob (as well as to various servicemen for comments on their experiences). Most of these were interesting, and a few were fascinating.
But tucked in amongst these interesting comments, we had Jiminy Glock (credited as such) making inappropriate comments about Bob Hope movies and such like. I don’t understand this. There were enough real people who met Bob Hope whose opinions I would have preferred to hear.
Face it, Martin Short is not a comedic talent worthy of note in his own right, let alone with this asinine overweight ('cos fat is hilarious, right?) alter ego. I wonder who he slept with to get on this show.

It’s Glick, not Glock.

And why wasn’t there any mention of the fact that Hope cheated on his wife more then Kennedy did?

I’m sure Bob Hope is a very nice fellow, but I have never found him to be funny. His work in the Road pictures with Bing Crosby was good—because they had good writers and directors. But his other movies, the stage acts I’ve seen filmed, and his TV shows? Awful. Painful. It’s nice that he’s had such a long rewarding life—but he ain’t no Jimmy Durante.
