Bob Hope - !00th birthday today!

I like him.

Been around a while.
Love those On the Road… movies.

USO. Need I say more?

I would like to propose a toast to Mr Hope.

Bartender a lemonade. (quickly adds.) In a dirty glass.

There’s a movie Bob Hope did that I can’t remember the title of. He gets temporary custody of a toddler whose mother abandoned her at the United Nations building. They call her “Nonnie”, short for “Little Miss Anonymous”. Finding out how to get the kid a home is complicated because she becomes a pawn, all the countries want to claim her.

Sentimental ending of course, with a message of “world peace” but you know? It’s how I wish things really are.

Bob Hope was great. As the only civilian honored as an armed forces veteran, I wonder if he could be buried in Arlington when the time comes?

(I left the obvious line open for one of you guys)

I liked it when he played golf through the tent in Spies Like Us.

He and Bing together were pure magic.

He’s a lot funnier now than he used to be.

In what way rmbnxs?

WTF?

On ABC radio on Saturday evenings they have a program called Bakelite Express which plays really old broadcast material. A while ago they played a recording of a 1940’s USO show featuring Bob Hope. None of the jokes was particularly stellar but the delivery was laugh out loud funny. It was as funny as anything I’ve heard this year.

don’t ask, I do agree: how he delivered the jokes was what made him great: On TV, I saw Bob Hope’s My Favorite Blonde. It was a takeoff of Alfred Hitchcock’s the 39 Steps. The “maguffin” was a ring:

The blonde spy to Hope: “See this ring? It contains the plans for a revolutionary new bomber that will win the war!!

Hope (incredulous): “Oh yeah? Well, see this one? It has “Benny Goodman and his orchestra!!”*

Happy birthday Bob!
