Bob Hope dead at 100

Just heard it on the morning news.

Thanks for the memories.

Oh, jeepers. At least he made it past the 100 mark, unlike poor Lillian Gish. Ah, well. I never thought he was funny, but I’m sure he was a very nice man and had a lovely life.

One of my faves.

On the Road to…

USO

That college football show

I just heard, but haven’t found a link yet.

While I found him humorous at times, the fact that he did so much for morale of soldiers during four wars is nothing short of admirable and amazing.

What a year it has been for celebrity losses.

He really was a great inspiration to many people.

A saw something on teevee not long ago that said his USO acts were “risqué”. The clip they showed was extremely tame by today’s standards. I try to catch his films when they are broadcast. He plays a good “hapless bumbler” with charming innocence. I guess I think of him as a more intelligent “Lou Costello” character who was always being taken advantage of my Bing Crosby’s “Abbot”.

The Christmas/New Year celebrity obit retrospectives are going to be crowded this year.

At his peak he was very funny, IMHO. Also he did TONS of USO shows over decades. It is sad he passed, but given his poor health the last year or so I think his quality of life had declined quite a bit. Godspeed Bob.

Here’s a link to the story on CBSNews.com: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/05/27/national/main555724.shtml

It’s all a matter of individual taste; I never liked Charlie Chaplin, either. But Bob Hope did an amazing amount of good work, and I’ve never heard any of his coworkers badmouth him. Very nice man, I’m sure, and an enviable life & career.

Painless Potter dead.

RIP Bob.

I second that.

Oh Bob! 100 years was not enough.

No more encores.

:frowning:

Liked him in a lot of things, but especially Fancy Pants when I was a kid.

Bye Bob. :frowning:

Thanks for the memor’y indeed…
I saw him twice in person in the past couple of years. He was asleep in the passenger seat of the minivan his staff used to run errands. My coworkers and myself would gather at the one-way glass in our office and look at him sleeping in the van. I always thought he had an amazing wit and assumed he would just live forever…

bob,
Thanks for all the laughs, and thanks for the memories

I heard he actually died months ago and they were keeping it quiet until after his hundredth birthday.

He, Bing Crosby, and Heddy Lamar are now off on the road to eternity…I hope they have a fine trip.
