Stevie Wonder at the Whitehouse

I know this is a bit late, but then again, given how randomly local PBS stations air any given program, it may not be.

Barack and Michelle’s favorite musician and national treasure Stevie Wonder was honored the other night with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. It’s airing tonight, but check your TV listings.

Seems like this is a job perk nearly as cool as Air Force One. Hell, I’d run for President if I could get my favorite performer to play in my home. Kate Bush (no relation) hasn’t performed a live concert since 1978.

Edit: This almost, but not quite, makes up for the President and the First Lady having to not only watch Garth Brooks but to pretend to enjoy it.

That was pretty good. We watched it in HD and the East Room was glittering. Stevie was fantastic, as always, but I also particularly liked India.Arie. Also performing were Diana Krall, Paul Simon, the gospel duo Mary Mary, Tony Bennett, Martina McBride, an opera singer I don’t know, and Esperanza Spalding. They all performed covers of Wonder songs.

Here’s a pool reporter’s report about the concert and some pictures.
