Stickin' it to the man...

So there’s this natural/holistic medicine (or something) purveyor that recently opened near a place I actually frequent. It apparently has no license to run a business in the city, and has a big notice from the city on its window to that effect. The business has responded in a way that I’ve never seen before.

It posted two signs in the window next to the notice. The first is a list of qualities whose relevance I’m uncertain of, including HIPAA compliance, member verification process, facility security, and responsible advertising. Unless there’s some loophole or something by which certain transactions are considered “not running a business,” I’m not sure what it’s saying other than “we’re reputable, dammit; take our word for it!”

The second is a sign basically telling agents of the city that if they weren’t specifically called for, you are not welcome and you must leave now, and that no one inside consents to questioning. Talk to our lawyer.

I have NO idea how long this can go on or what the business hopes to accomplish. I’m pretty sure I’ll see that storefront empty again sometime soon, but it’s mildly amusing.

No doubt the proprietor is a Sovereign Citizen or some such, who will patiently explain to the judge why the law (the Sovereign Citizen’s law, that is) is entirely on his side.
