Stimulus Check Question: Biden says we will get $2000. Are we also still getting the $600?

Title kinda says it all.

The current congress passed a bill to send us $600.

Biden and the upcoming congress have said they will give us $2000.

So, does that mean we will get $2,600? Or $600 + $1400? Or cancel the $600 and just get $2000?

Something else?

$600 + $1400.

The bill that the House passed to increase the payout was for an additional $1400. What law they pass in this Congress may or may not be the same. Since it’s a new Congress, the old bill is dead; they have to start over and get it passed by both houses. So they could just repass the previous bill or do a new one.

They can’t cancel the $600, because many of us already got it.

Nobody knows yet.

The new Congress could pass all sorts of things, including any of various amounts; and/or payments targeted differently than the previous stimulus payments; or nothing at all. I think ‘nothing at all’ is unlikely, but I also wouldn’t count on any specific payment getting to any specific people by any specific time.

ETA: I daydream about Bernie’s 2K every month until covid’s gone away; but I don’t think that one’s very likely either.
