stomachs and food

does anyone else get a burny feeling in their stomach when they eat?

Sometimes this happens to me.
Is it heartburn?
What IS heartburn?

Heartburn has been renamed Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disorder, or GERD. In short, stuff from your stomach (food and stomach acid) gets belched back up into your esophagus (the hose between your throat and your stomach.) You can Google GERD, and you’ll get more info and drug ads than you thought possible. There are drugs you can take that will make it go away.

This is where I send you to a doctor of medicine. I’m merely a doctor of divinity. Imagine being a doctor of meringue candy. That’s me, I guess.

It also maybe that you have some sort of allergy or intolerance. In some forms onions make me sick, in others they give me an upset stomach. Garlic also does the same.

I ended up going to the doctor, have a tube down the throat, getting ulcers and taking medication for a year. I was still having the pains and such and decided to not take the meds any more. Nothing happened except the same damn pains. I finally figured out what it was. The thing is that it’s impossible to excape either onions or garlic unless I make my own food. I can not even have things that have been cooked in the area of onions sometimes. It sucks but there’s not much I can do about it.

I think you should try and see if something common is causing it, then seeing if cutting it out helps. Except, if you have onion problems good luck cutting it out, even pasta has onions in it sometimes.

A burning sensation could be symptomatic of a stomach ulcer. Like ETH mentioned, do you get the sensation with all foods or do certain foods or food types seem to set it off? I assure you ulcers if left untreated can pose problems more serious than just minor discomfort and if this continues you probably should see a specialist, either an internist or a gastroenterologist.

Only when I eat the purple berries.

Are you taking any medication that might also be making you sick? Do you get the burning feeling every single time you eat or is it an off-and-on sort of thing? I used to be on some medication that would give me a burning feeling 2-3 days per week. That was a pre-cursor to some violent barfing and cramps. Quite fun. I was 20 pounds lighter then. Ah, memories…

Anyway, you might want to give your doctor’s office a call. You could just be experiencing indigestion or, as stated earlier, the burning sensations in your stomach can be symptoms or a more serious problem. Another thing you might consider is your diet - do you eat relatively healthfully or do you eat a lot of junk? I sometimes get burning in my stomach if I eat junk food, but then again, the medication I mentioned earlier left me with an extremely sensitive gut. Good luck, and hope you feel better!

thanks.

My only medication is birth control pills.

Its only sometimes.
I can eat at Taco Bell and nothing, but last night, it was a helathy can of beans.

I almost bought some antacids today.
They seem to be made of Calcium.
How does that help?

It doesn’t have to be precription meds. Most of the pain I’ve had with my stomach stopped after I wised up and stopped taking uncoated aspirin.

Calcium is a base, i think. therefore neutralizing out the acid, if that is what is causing your stomach pain. It helps against heartburn because that is what is causing the pain, but in your case we don’t know. But that’ll probably help.

Also, particularly for women, a little extra calcium never hurts. But if you get to the point where you’re popping Tums or other antacids like candy, seek medical attention - in large quantities that stuff can hurt more than it can help.
