Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland has died

Found by his manager in the back of a tour bus. No other information yet.

Oh man, this sucks – I’m a huge STP fan, and I’ve been hoping that Scott would reunite with the rest of the band, but damn. It was most likely an overdose, I’m guessing. :frowning:

Crap, and Pearl Jam was just about to announce their spring tour!

I seriously thought Scott was gonna live forever. Seems like you couldn’t watch a single episode of MTV News over the last 20 years without some kind of mention of him having an overdose or psychotic episode…

Damon. I wasn’t much of a Stone Temple Pilots fan, but I liked Velvet Revolver’s two albums.

I’ve been an enormous fan for such a very long time. This is so very sad, though not entirely surprising.

What a bummer. He was a great performer. I was a fan.

Dead at 48. Such a shame and tragedy. He could have easily had 30 more years ahead of him. Life really sucks sometimes on who it takes in the death lottery.

Of course, there might have been other factors and history…but still.

RIP, Scott…thanks for the great music.

Woah! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but damn man. A piece of my youth just died as I read the thread title. Crap. :frowning:

Just seeing this. Unfortunately not a surprise given his history.

Great vocalist and great songs - people wanted to dismiss them as grunge wannabees at the start, but their songs hold up.

Thanks, Scott - hope you got the peace you were looking for.

This question may not be appropriate for this thread but did Pearl Jam ever cover STP’s Plush live or is that just a myth?

I assumed he’d died 15 years ago, but then I always got him mixed up with that guy from Alice In Chains.

I hope he found what he’s always been looking for. STP were a big part of my 20’s, he was only three years older than me. Rest in peace, dude.

Edited to add: I loaded a playlist of all the Weiland, Revolver, STP stuff in the library, put it on random, and what plays first but Pretty Penny.

Scott had an amazing voice, and STP had some really great songs. I remember watching the live acoustic version of plush and thinking “whoah this skinny dude has a really deep, powerful kind of voice.”

Well, so could any 48 year old that didn’t spend almost their entire life doing heroin (and when they weren’t doing heroin, doing crack instead).

I remember, back in high school, it seemed like every time STP went on tour, it was cancelled because he’d relapse. I’d swear at least 3 or 4 times I told my friends that I wasn’t going to pay for ticket until Scott was sober for at least a few years.

Fast forward to about a week ago. I was on one of my local theater’s website and saw that he was coming to town and thought to myself ‘yeah, I’m not buying tickets until you’re sober’…jokingly, I mean, I wasn’t going to buy tickets anyways, it’s just sort of what I think every time I run across his name. I’m never surprised to find out that he’s back in rehab, I was really surprised to find out that he finally died (and that it was in MN, which means he was going to be in Milwaukee soon).

I wasn’t a huge fan, but STP was very talented, and hearing their songs takes me back to the 90s/early 00s. RIP Scott.

Terrible. My most personally upsetting celeb. death of the year for sure. Wow.

I loved the first 3 STP albums, especially Purple. The first Velvet Revolver one was great, too.

Very sad to learn this. Pandora recently got the rights to STP music and it has been coming up on my radio station a lot.

I just saw the rest of the guys play Interstate Love Song with a female-vocalist on Kimmel. I bet they are devastated.

Sad News! He was one of my favorites. He had such a great voice and stage presence.

I saw the STP reunion a few years back and they were really good. I thought… he’s back and this may be their return.

There are lots of other things that may kill you at 48, but with his history…

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Bummer. STP played a huge part in the soundtrack of my 20s.

I bought tickets to the KISS reunion show at Tiger Stadium in 1996 as much to see STP as to see KISS. Then Scott was sent to court-ordered rehab, and STP had to pull out, so half of the reason I bought the tickets was gone. Alice in Chains filled in, so it wasn’t a complete wash.

Ah, the elusive AIC concert. I remember it well.

Another big fan that’s not at all surprised. Frankly I think we may be fortunate it took this long. Regardless, he’ll be missed. I think I’ll pull up some Core and Purple and spend a Friday off with STP yet again, and it won’t be the last.
