How 'bout Schatze? (Shot-zee) German for “Treasure”…I have heard it used as a term of endearment.
My daugther’s dox was named Winifred (she wanted a boy and was going to name him Fred), but we called her Wendy…Wendy the Wonderful Wiener Dog.
squeal Ohhh, I love mini dachshunds. I have three of them myself. This is Dino.
I second Gretel or maybe Greta.
Behold! the cutest dog ever!
She’s definitely photogenic !
So far, we have 5 names on the family approved list to chose from:
Gretel
Gwendolyn
Penelope
Wilhelmina
Merryweather
oh, and Stella. :smack:
OHMIGAWD she’s frickin’ adorable! Look at those earseses! And the pointy widdle nose and her cute widdle tail!
passes out from dauschund-induced sweetness overload
An adorable, cute, amazing little face like that is no Stella. She’s a Gretel, I’m sure of it.
Can I pet your puppy? She’s so cute.
The audible noise of delight I emitted upon seeing puppy3 was only exceeded by an even louder AWWW! at puppy2.
Oh, what a cutie.
Cute puppy!!!
My favorite German names are Anneliese (ahn na leeza) and Ingeborg, shortened to Inge (ing guh) when she is good. Both are very musical sounding, which is good in dog names.
I love the suggestion earlier of Schatze. It is a great affectionate nickname and definitely what I would name my doxie.
BTW, a German pronounces Gretel more like grate uhl, not grett el, like an American would.
Belladonna
Adler
Minix
Minx
Vixen
Helena
Rose
Rosemary
Rumple
Doppleganger
Saraphina
Geist
Frauhauser
Gerkin
Strudelkuchen
Hoodan
Lasker
Gummibaren
Keine Sheitzen
Sheitzenkoph
Spelling not looked up.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
That is just way toooooooooooooo cute ! I thik she looks like a Gretchen , personally.
Give her hugs and kisses and ear scritches for me , and suck in some of that puppy breath… it is gone far too soon .

Ooph, then I looked at the pictures. Cute!
Merryweather <-
She is precious! My favorite pose is the one where her head is tilted a little to the side - classic dashshund look.
I nominate the name Honey. She’s a little Honey. Greta is very nice too. I have two dachies now - Shadow’s in my lap snoozing. (I’m pretty good at typing one-handed by now).
No Thor, then. Fine. I’ll just continue my lonely quest to find a dachshund name Thor.
Dad, is that you? He wanted to name every one of our pets Ralph.
Susan
Schmetterling. (Pronounced Shmetalling)
It means butterfly.
Oh my god. Next dachshund I get I’m naming it Thor.
I agree. Thor is an awesome name for a male Dachshund!
BlueKangaroo, with your comment, I have happily convinced Stonebow that Stella is not suitable. Of course you may pet the puppy ('cause I totally owe you one on that Stella thing)!
Name selection update:
Stella was wrung out of him, but in return Stonebow vetoed Gretel. We may give up on German names. My husband also expressed a wish for something that will shorten nicely, so…
Wilhelmina (Meena)
Penelope (Penny)
Merryweather (Merry)
Honey
and a late nomination from another source, Minerva (Minnie)
I once knew a minpin named Thor. Now that was amusing.
Yay!
Runs around packing a suitcase for a puppy petting trip to FaerieBeth and Stonebow’s house.
Well, maybe not a Gretel then.
Hmm…
Meena’s nice. I like Meena.
