Ok…I admit it. I’m new to iTunes. Welcome to 1984.
I’ve ripped several CD’s to iTunes and for some reason, a few of the CD’s are showing up in my library as individual songs. For example, I have a set of three compilation CD’s. The first and second CD show the individual albums and the songs listed correctly under each album. The third CD in the set lists the album 14 separate times with a single song under each. I’ve tried to drag the songs and I’ve tried every “view” setting I can find.
Highlight all of the songs that are showing up individually (click on the first-listed one, then shift-click on the last listed one). Right-click on any of them and choose “Get info”.
This is all the metadata iTunes associates with your files, and to iTunes, it’s very important.
First I’d click over to the “Options” tab. Make sure “Part of a Compilation” is set to “Yes”, and make sure the checkbox next to it is checked. iTunes will then set each file as part of a compilation.
If that didn’t work, I would then select everything and choose “Get info” again. Then I’d retype the name of the album in the “info” tab and make sure the box next to it is checked. When you click “OK”, iTunes will update the name of the album to be exactly the same for each file you selected. Sometimes there’s an invisible space after the end of the album name, and iTunes assumes that since they aren’t exact matches, they’re different.
If that didn’t work, I’d select everything and choose “Get Info” again. This time head over to the “sorting” tab. (Sorting lets you move “The” or “A” and whatnot to the end, so you’ll find “The Beatles” under “B” and not “T”). Either type the name of the album in the appropriate field, or not, but check the box and iTunes will make sure each file has the same information. Then click OK.
Actually, before I’d do any of that…you are sorting by the Album column, right? You click the column headers to sort, and you want to make sure you’re sorting by album – iTunes won’t force all the songs in an album together if you tell it you’d rather see your music sorted by artist or genre, for example.
Garfield226, you’re my hero. That worked … at least until I had two separate albums highlighted by mistake and then it worked just a little too well. :smack: Nonetheless, I’ve tidied up my album list all thanks to you. Thank you!
