STOP NOW or I will cut your fucking balls off myself

Calm kiwi, like someone already mentioned, you should never try to clean away cat urine with disinfectants containing ammonia…ammonia based disinfectants will attract cats to that area because to cats it smells like cat urine. It is better to clean the area with warm soapy water, than to try to combat the smell with another smell. For a temporary solution to your problem, try placing citrus peel, sprigs of a herb called rue or naphthalene flakes on/around the problem area…this may provide a useful deterrent for some cats. There are cat repellent sprays and gels (available from plant nurseries or vets) which may also be successful at stopping your cats from spraying in that particular area. I’ll add that these methods will only work if your cat does not like the smell of the product. Alternatively, you could spray your cats with water whenever you see them going near your wardrobe…though this is only effective if you’re there to catch them.
As for desexing your cats, do you have something like a Cat Protection Society in NZ? I always get my cats desexed through the Cat Protection Society…they’re a lot cheaper (only AUS$50 for a female). So far, I’ve had 36 cats desexed by them. Also, here in NSW, the students in the veterinary departments at universities desex cats for free, so the vet departments at any nearby uni to you may have a similar service.
Good luck with your boys…the sooner they lose their nuts, the better off you’ll all be.

Hehe, all 3 of mine do it…hey, what else you gonna do, they gotcha, yer a captive audience.

Get em fixed, unneutered house cats who are allowed outside are a huge contribution to the feral cat problems MANY countries have, which can have a disastrous effect on the local fauna of birds and small animals.

I have 4 indoor girl kitties. All fixed but only one declawed. The only reason she’s declawed is we rented at the time and was tearing up the rug so it was declaw her or send her to the shelter.

I volunteered at the local SPCA and that’s where all my animals (including the hamster) came from. I just wanted to add that:

These boys need to be fixed (but you already knew that

This may not stop the spraying. There is some great advice above about cleaning affected areas as they will continue to spray if they still smell sprayed areas. Because they go outside and pick up scent markers there that may be enough to continue to encourage spraying indoors (as that is their territory)

I keep my kitties inside not because I want to be cruel to them. I want them to not end up road pizza. The average life span of an indoor cat is about 18 years. Outdoor kitties live on average 7 years. (you can talk to any shelter if you’d like a cite.)

Cat overpopulation (speaking for where I live but I’ve never spoken to anyone who lived somewhere where there weren’t an excess of kitties) is a huge problem. Stray cats are likely to carry diseases and perpetuate the overpopulation problem. During the mating seasons so many cats/litters are brought into some shelters that entire litters are euthanized upon arrival. What’s worse there? Castration or death? It’s not like the cat is thinking “Gee I wish I could see tabby, spot and whiskers all go on to kitty college and settle down and make me a grand tabby one day” They won’t miss their reproductive organs

If you think there aren’t feral cats in the suburbs, you are kidding yourself. I’ve seen 3 or 4 of them living in the drainage pipe outside my house and I live just outside Washington, D.C. They are part of a colony that lives in my subdivision. I haven’t seen any kittens yet which makes me wonder if they have been part of the trap, neuter, and release program. They are definitely strays and not outdoor house cats.

Oh, and I think you should change loo kitty’s name to lieu kitty.

That’s true. I own a tom that is going to be 8 this September. However, he is an inside cat and has never been outside without a leash - and that, perhaps once a year or so.
Yes, he is uncut, but he is kept inside and not out fathering kitties that will possibly die unloved and alone.

My wife and I were given a kitten that we were told was female. No. We ended up with a male in a small one-bedroom apartment. One evening, we returned home to find a puddle on the bed. Enraged, I pursued the cat and caught it. I then rubbed it’s face in the wet spot on our bed while saying “Get a good whiff, you little fucker” through clenched teeth. Since my wife was pregnant at the time, we were already discussing getting rid of the cat. This just sealed the deal.

You know, there’s so much wrong with that post that I don’t even know where to start Evil One. Let me just say that if you really think that anyone in this thread is going to be impressed by your display of cruel, irresponsible assholery then you are sadly mistaken.

My experience just proves that cats are not for everyone. The input that I get from them is either neutral or negative. Since there is nothing positive from them in my opinion, the irritants such as litterboxs, incessant yowling, scratching and stink just stand out more.

What the fuck does that have to do with the discussion at hand? This is NOT the “Tell how big an asshat you were to your pet” thread; this is a discussion about ways to eliminate undesirable behavior from beloved pets. Since you were willing to get rid of your cat just because of a pregnancy, you never really wanted the poor guy to start with.

You do NOT rub a kitten’s nose in a mess. Kittens do NOT know any better, and they do not learn from it.

Here’s hoping the kitty went to a better home.

What were you trying to say with this, that you’re a fuckwad? Cuz it worked.

wonders what punishment Evil One metered out to his child when it soiled it’s nappy/diaper. I bet it learned to flush the toilet from a very early age…I just hope it was taught to wash it’s hands too

Maybe this was him?
