Point of order; “disfranchised”. “Disenfranchise” is a misnomer everyone suddenly seized on for some reason 20 years ago, akin to referring to disabled people as “disenabled”.
Pretty much. The Republican Party at this point needs to be treated the same way the Nazi Party was after WWII. This country needs to undergo a harsh period of Detrumpification.
Hear, hear. Fuck Chump voters indeed. Listening to them is no different from listening to German Nazis nattering on about their “oppression” by the Jews.
I couldn’t agree more and that is just for starters.
We’ve danced around calling GOP voters deplorables to be nice but yeah…deplorables barely covers it. These are bad people.
It is fine…great even…to have differing political opinions on how to best solve issues but the GOP has dumpstered all of that in favor of just pretending these problems don’t exist.
And the “why” of it is obvious…they cannot win the debate. They’ve got nothing. If they did they’d lay it on us. But they don’t. Their side is so weak they are only left with just ignoring reality.
Mock them any chance you get. They do not deserve a seat at the table any more.
Due to the hostility of the Republican party to science, providing affordable healthcare to everyone and anything that gets in the way of maximal profits for the 1%, they have refused to deal with the most pressing issues of the day. Consequently we have a pandemic that is out control, climate change is accelerating and the economy is tanking as we struggle with these issues. That means I am a higher risk of illness and death, the jobs of myself and my family members are on the line, I cannot see my aged and ill father in his nursing home and my kids’ futures are looking grim. They can’t get decent jobs and have no health insurance which means they are more dependent on me and my husband for financial support. Oh, and since I live in a Democratic-leaning area, there are ongoing attempts to suppress votes in my district.
And I’m a reasonably affluent white person. Clearly it’s much, much harder for others.
But I am a also a professional scientist. The aforementioned hostility to science and intellectual honesty ( I.e alternate reality bullshit peddled by right-wing media) is very oppressive.
There is no point in engaging with them. Their entire arguments boil down to “nu-uh,” “is not,” and “your not the boss of me.” These are people too stupid to wear masks during a pandemic, putting the lives of all of us at risk. They have no sense of personal responsibility and no morality recognizable as such.
Citation needed for that claim. I’m not sure how anybody could even make that claim considering what we’ve seen in the news recently about Newsom, Pelosi, Mayor Lightfoot, etc…
Who have admitted making mistakes. They’re not denying the very existence of the virus.
There’s also the selfish idea of “I have right not to wear a mask because it’s my risk” because who gives a fuck about protecting others which is the main benefit of masking.
There are people who are denying the virus even as they’re dying from COVID.
I wonder which side of the aisle claimed that after the election, we’d stop even hearing abut the virus? Which side? Oh, it was the TOP GUY on that side! Well slap me silly!
