Stories of Defensive Gun Use

This thread is for sharing stories of times when a gun in the hands of a responsible individual prevented a bad situation from getting worse. This is to demonstrate that there are indeed times and places where the right person with a gun can prevent or at least mitigate tragedy.

As a warning and disclaimer, many of these stories will involve graphic descriptions of violent injury or death. Some of the linked videos may show people being injured or killed, though I would ask that if linking to a video or article with video that shows the death of a person, that it be warned and put into a spoiler tag. Some of the stories may be distributing, and few, will have those involved finding it to be a positive experience.
To get things started, here’s three:
Man thwarts home invasion, shoots intruders holding mother of two at gunpoint

Police said two men wearing masks broke into the home by climbing up a deck and entering through a nearby window.

The men went upstairs and stole a cell phone from a 9-year-old boy and then held his mother at gunpoint in the next room demanding money, according to police.

Police said the woman’s one-year-old was also in the house.

Investigators said a man interrupted the robbery with gunfire.

One suspect died, the other is in the hospital.

The homeowner and her son are safe, the gunman who drove off the criminals is still unknown. Some of the neighbors expressed their concerns about the event.
Armed civilian helps stop Redding man arrested for multiple felony charges

Redding man’s kidnapping attempt was halted when an armed civilian intervened, and allowed law enforcement officials to arrest him.
Officers rushed to the scene and upon arrival, they learned the person with the handgun was actually a good samaritan who had confronted Hulsey after seeing victim #2 in the vehicle in distress.
Hulsey was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, kidnapping, sexual battery, and resisting arrest.

Violent deomestic abuser and all around criminal is now in jail and his vicitms, though quite traumatized, are safe for now.

Quick action from a Hoonah boy saved a fishing party from a charging brown bear on June 18
The bear ran through the first two men, who were pushed to the side of the trail, leaving Elliot Clark in front of his unarmed cousin. The boy raised his pump action shotgun and shot the sow, hitting it with birdshot, which is often used just to scare bears off, Lucas Clark said.

“His first shot was a light load of birdshot. That first shot hit him in the shoulder and did absolutely nothing. The next shot hit him in the nose and traveled down through the neck,” Lucas Clark said.

The third shot went into the bear’s shoulder and his back, dropping it to the ground. The bear was so close when Elliot hit it with his third shot, there were powder burns on the bear’s mouth. Still alive, the bear then slid by Elliot’s feet.

“As the bear slid past him and came to a stop, he put a kill shot it him,” Lucas Clark said.

One dead bear, one safe fishing party.
