Story?- Christmas tree shelters animals

Last night, a friend said her favorite Christmas story as a child was about one tree in a forest of potential Christmas trees. When cold or danger came, animals would seek shelter in the trees, but all the other trees were too concerned about staying unmarred & perfect so they could be Christmas trees. Only one tree was caring enough to take in the animals & risk being marred- and of course, in the end, that tree is regarded as the best one of all because of the animals shapes
imprinted in it.

I told her about how you guys can take a couple random details from second-hand decades-long memories & find the answer in 24 hours. Please don’t let me down! L

Why the evergreen never loses its leaves.

My daughter just did an oral report on this story–dressed as a tree!

Thanks- I’ll let her know so she can confirm. It’s not totally what she described but close!

This MUST be it!

Search the title and you can find the full text.

Ooo - I just thought of one too. Maybe you can identify this one.

I am pretty sure it was a Little Golden Book. It was about a tree in the forest that the animals decorate for Christmas. They might have gotten the idea from seeing it in someone’s house?

The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree perhaps?
