In not sure either. Maybe it was a look that gained popularity as a stereotype by Tom Finland’s art?
This, particularly the part I bolded, is quite interesting to me. Because that sounds like what I would prefer, minus the man. I’m all about the reactions, and the face conveys so much. I want to see her enjoying herself, not a closeup on her genitals. I may look into more lesbian porn, to see if they do the same thing.
The only thing I have to offer this thread is that I’ve looked at some “porn by women” stuff, and I notice there just feels like there’s more eroticism–more setting the right mood. I’ve never really watched gay male porn, but I would guess there’s not a lot of that there.
There’s no similarity between the two. Tom of Finland’s art is a stylization of certain fantasies and fetishes. Rob Halford’s look is nothing but a crude theatrical caricature.
So I’m seeing here a lot of stereotyping of what gay men “like” in other men. The fact is that there is as much variety in what gay men like in other men as there is in what straight men like in women. Some like 'em pretty, some like 'em masculine, some like 'em older, some like 'em younger, muscly or thin or chubby, smooth or hairy, the permutations are endless.
Also, for the record, even though you didn’t ask, while some gay men are exclusively either tops or bottoms, there are plenty who like to participate both ways, either in the same session or at different times with different people. I don’t know why I felt the need to put that down in words for y’all, but the rush of assumptions going on in here was just a bit much for me. This post also speaks somewhat to the OP.
You are very right. My whole point was that if I saw a video cover that had this kind of guy on the cover, my first reaction would not be “this is a video for women”. I agree with you that there is a ton of variety in what all (not just gay) people like. No doubt there might be some women that would completely disagree with me and that’s cool.
I used Halford as an example because I have never heard of a woman expressing that this look is attractive. When I lived in San Francisco, I did see gay guys dressed like that (probably tourists) more than once. Maybe Halford was a bad example because I only recall his look from the 80’s. To me, it looked based off Finland’s look.
In the end, there really is no answer.
