Straight Men for Shaun Cassidy???

OK I have a temp job where they said it’d be OK for me to bring in some CDs 'cause I’m in a place off by myself and all I do is data entry.

So last Friday I brought in a bunch of CDs including one by Shaun Cassidy, called “Greatest Hits.”

I love the song “Hey Deanie” and I think he did a much better job with it then Eric Carmen (who wrote it).

Well every woman over the age of 35 in the office was like “Oh PLEASE make me a copy of that CD, PLEASE!!” Which I can sort of understand.

One guy comes up to me all secrative and asks “Can you make me a copy? But don’t tell anyone.” I said “Why?” He said “Well everyonoe wil think I’m gay, if I want a copy.”

Well I AM gay so perhaps he has a point.

So the question is, are there any straight guys out there who like Shaun Cassidy? I mean for his music. Well mabye you don’t like his music but think a few of his songs are catchy.

For those who don’t know he had a few hits in the 70s like

*Do Ron Ron *
Hey Deanine
That’s Rock N Roll
Do You Believe In Magic

His “contractual obligation” album, Wasp, was actually pretty good.

But dude, he looks like a little girl, of course anyone who’s a fan of his is going to have some gender confusion.

Out of his hits I did like “Hey Deanie.” I have it on a compilation disc of other 70’s music. As for “Da Doo Ron Ron,” and “Do You Believe In Magic?” I prefer the originals by the Crystals and the Lovin’ Spoonful.

I always considered Shaun Cassidy to be a favorite of the teeny boppers, much like his brother David, from the Partridge family. In other words, he was mostly a favorite of pre-teen girls. Much like Miley Cyrus appeals to a pre-teen girl market today. It’s not so much that liking him means you’re gay, rather, I don’t find his music to be for more sophisticated tastes. More sophisticated tastes than those of a pre-teen girl, I mean. I’m not assuming anything about your taste if you’re gay. I’m straight and I like Elton John, and I don’t care what his sexual orientation is. I wouldn’t say a grown man is gender-confused for liking it, to me it’s more like he hasn’t really grown up.

I’m a 52 year old male, by the way, so that’s where I’m coming from.

When I was a teen back in the mid-70s I had what I assume was his debut album and I thought it was a lot of fun. It would not have occurred to me that it might turn me gay. Of course, now that I am older and wiser, I can see how my friends thought it would turn me gay. It didn’t, but it was a close thing.
