I think the ease with which anyone can create web pages using Geocities worries the PRC govt. They don’t like the idea of just anyone starting up a site, or reading other amateurs’ efforts. And as a centralized system, it’s easy to block. Blogging systems like Typepad amd Blogspot have been blocked as well.
