Just don’t let me hear you whine when you are 28 and don’t have the lung capacity to blade or be rowdy.(who says ‘rowdy’ anymore?) Or complain that all your clothes stink and your teeth are yellowing. Or that all your disposable income is being eaten up by your nicotine habit.
Really, you feel OK now, but that’s gonna change PDQ. You don’r really appreciate being able to take a deep breath till you have trouble doing it. I started having trouble in my early 20’s.

OK, now to the point.
If the guy wants to smoke, who are you to get up in his face and tell him what an asshole he is? Your quality of life is barely affected by smokers anymore. Smokers can’t smoke inside public buildings anymore (which I think is a good thing, by the way). They have designated smoking areas nowadays at most places. If you don’t like smokers, avoid being near them.
Just don’t fucking sermonize about the evils of smoking. He’ll figure it out sooner or later, and if he dies, too bad. I didn’t make him smoke, and neither did you.
If you have an objection to someone blowing smoke around you, voice it. If they’re not near you, don’t make any special effort to tell them that they’re a dick.
That’s what nonsmokers do. It drives me insane. It’s like being besieged by fucking Jehovah’s Witnesses about Christ. I tell them to take a hike, and when I smoked I told the anti-smoking crusaders the same thing. Shut up and go away.
He’ll quit when he wants to. Nothing you say will change that. Let it go.
Sure, he’s misguided. I hate smokers as much as the next anti-smoking evangelist. Skaters should stay off the sidewalk. Children should be protected from inappropriate media. We all know that. But you’re all focusing on the smoking arguments - which, as he said in the OP, he’s heard before, so don’t bother - and missing the big picture.
Look at the passion in his words. Doesn’t anybody remember what it was like to be 17 and angry at the world? How new and shiny life was? How you were gonna live forever and adults were all just a bunch of fucking idiots?
God, I miss that.
For him to post his words here shows that he’s willing to learn. But he’s not going to listen to bullying assholes trying to ram the same tired old arguments down his throat. If enough of you piss him off, he may never come back. We have an opportunity to help this guy, and most of you squander it by trying to get your clever shots in.
I’m not advocating treating him with kid gloves (no pun intended), but threats and bile are not very constructive.
