Strange and disturbing dreams

I had a dream last night. Now, most of my dreams are strange and weird. But this one was downright disturbing.

Some people may not want to read this–the imagery is rather unpleasant.

So. . . .
I dreamed that there was a hole in the palm of my hand, about where the ring finger joins the palm. There was no blood, no pain, no broken bones, even no loss of function, or anything else to indicate an injury – just a hole roughly the diameter of a finger. And at least part of my hand was hollow. There was clearly empty space between the top and bottom (palm side) of the hand. I could see the inner “lining” (tendons, etc) for the top side of the hand. It looked rather like an illustration in an anatomy textbook.

Perhaps the worst part was that there was a cotton “thing” – quite similar to a piece of yarn, which it may have been – that was inside my hand, and somehow stuck inside. Part of it dangled out of the hole. I tried pulling it out, but it was stuck or tangled up somehow in the inner structure of my hand, and I felt that I would do damage to my hand if I pulled much harder. So I just cut off the length that stuck out of the hole.

I was trying to figure out how to bandage the hole, when I woke up.

Dreaming of body parts (or loss/damage to same) seems to be fairly common.

This site has various theories as to what a particular body part may signify in a dream (I don’t see a hole in the hand specifically referenced).*

Now if one is dreaming of the anus, that has a certain meaning.

To see your anus in your dream signifies negative emotions that you may be holding in and repressing. It represents feelings of guilt, shame, and self-worth. Alternatively, the anus is associated with either your generosity or stinginess.

Hope that helps.

*my personal take is that there is a gap in your emotional life that needs to be filled, perhaps by wearing gloves.

I have dreamed in the past that I opened a little piece of my head and touched my brain, or that I was disassembling and assembling my lower body, that my teeth were falling out or changing shape, and some other related things. I get them from time to time. However every time I have no blood or pain and feel that all of that is normal.

Easy. The hole is clearly stigmata, you are having a God complex. The fact that the stigmata only occurred on 1 hand and neither foot, however, indicates that you do not feel fully powerful as a god - a quartergod as it were. The yarn in the stigmata indicates that you believe that even being a given the power of a quartergod is a deal with strings attached.

Either that, or bad pizza. One can never rule out bad pizza.

I dreamed that I was me and my brother was an infant. I got a knife and fork and cut a bite-size piece out of his belly to eat.

Teeth dreams are pretty common. Mine are always loose or falling out in my dreams.

The night I see my anus in a dream is the night I stop sleeping.

Interesting theory. I’ve read that dreams involving non-yarn cotton substances extracted from small to medium sized unnatural or misplaced bodily orifices exposing an otherwise hollow inner structure are the manifestations of anxiety due to an upcoming trip, or work assignment.

Having never seen it in real life, I’m afraid I wouldn’t recognize it in a dream!

ETA: My anus, that is, although I haven’t seen yours in real life either. Or in a dream.

Last night and the one before, I’ve had the same nightmare, where the same thing happens. It’s the end of the world, and there’s a hole slowly but surely growing and having everything fall into a black void.

As I’m moving away from the crevice, this deep, demonic voice is heard throughout the world, stating, “The east and the west are mine, and the north and the south are mine. All seems beautiful to me.” It was at that point I’m swallowed by the void, but then the world seemed anew, albeit darker.

I woke up around 4 am, with those words still in my head, so I reached onto my nightstand for my phone and started typing the words into Google. When I saw Google auto-complete the phrase after typing “The east and the west…”, my stomach clenched up (or that could’ve been the food poisoning from two days before), and I clicked on the “Find Results” feature.

Turns out, it’s from a poem by Walt Whitman entitled “Song of the Open Road.” I had no idea how I would ever know that phrase, and I stared at the ceiling, pondering what it all meant.

A few minutes later, a commercial came on where that phrase was part of the advertisement, and I realize my brain must’ve integrated that into my dream somehow.

That’s what I get for leaving the tv on after taking ZzzQuil. :smack:

Wait, are you saying that a bunch of words I pulled out of my a$$ makes sense? I wish that happened more often…

OK, I have a question for people who like to analyze dreams. I never, ever have nightmares or disturbing dreams. What does that mean?

A few days ago I dreamed that a man pushed me off the DC Metro (subway) platform onto the tracks as a train approached. The man was unnaturally fat, almost spherical, like a cartoon character.

The tracks are far enough below the platform that it looks like it would be difficult to climb back up, but I managed to do so before the train hit me. Then, impulsively, I pushed HIM. He fell directly in front of the train with no time to react and was killed, and I was left standing on the platform trying to figure out how I should feel, but mostly feeling like a horrible person.

No idea what it means, if anything, but there was a news story recently about a woman who did push someone onto the tracks fatally…although that apparently happened in New York.
