I just bit into a Honeycrisp apple that had been sitting on my desk (room temperature) for 4 days.
There were no soft spot, no brown areas, no tears or holes in the peel.
When I bit into it, I found that maybe 1/3 of an inch below the peel, there was an area of the apple that was brown. It’s texture seems to be the same as the rest of the apple. There is 1/3 of an inch of normal white flesh between the brown area and the peel. The whole brown area is maybe the size of a large grape.
I moved 1/4 of the way around the apple, and took another bite. This time, I hit another internal brown spot, about 1/2 the size of the last one.
I’ve now cut ope the apple, and I found 4 of these spots. They aren’t connected to each other. None of them go all the way out to the peel and none go all the way in to the core.
What causes internal bruising on an apple?
