Strange "Earth groans"

I was fascinated by these videos last year, and had completely forgotten about the bizarre phenomenon until now:

I was never one to believe in the “2012 Apocalypse” hoax, but I’m ashamed to admit that when I saw my first “Earth groans” video in November of last year, it gave me nightmares. The first video I saw was the one that begins at 5:14 in the video, as it was featured on the news.

I’m just wondering if the cause of the sounds has been discovered, and if not, what do you think is the cause?

It’s ambient electronic music, added as a soundtrack. You can hear the guitar in the Bucharest segment.

Silliest thing I’ve seen this week.

You could have just not responded instead of being rude.

You could have taken 2 seconds to apply a minimum of critical thinking before posting that ridiculous nonsense.

The very first segment. The camera pans around the person seen in the video is totally NOT responding to the HUGE BOOMS. The person taking the video doesn’t speak at all. No “What was that?” Nothing.

OBVIOUSLY FAKE.

Yup, it sounds exactly like clips from various dark ambient recordings. Could be Lustmord or Thomas Koner (or dozens of others).

FWIW, in southern California, you can sometimes hear earthquakes, as they make a subtle, deep, rather haunting noise. Not always, and not everywhere, but I have definitely heard it.

(This appears to be somewhat controversial.)

Guys, Aristotle thought earthquakes were caused by the release of compressed air deep underground. At least he was right about the pressure build-up part.

There’s a youtube video specifically debunking those videos, which shows its the exact same sound in every video just dubbed over the top of different footage.

btw even though I knew it was fake I found it pretty damn creepy as well.

Here’s the debunking video: - YouTube

There are real earth noises, some of the most famous up here in New England. Google “Moodus noises.”

The Moodus school teams are named the Noises, as well.

I have definitely heard noises from earthquakes, sort of a soft vibration or grinding.

Ah! Thank you! That answers my question.

No problem. I ran across this stuff about two weeks ago and a couple videos looked very realistic so I started googling/youtubing to find out more, then I found the debinking video. I had a feeling I’d see this stuff again so I bookmarked it.

I’ve been close to the epicenter of a ~6.0 earthquake, and it sounded like a thunderstorm underground.

Same here. Sometimes you hear them a half second before you feel them. Some sound like huge semi-trucks, others like freight trains and just when you stop to wonder about the sound, you begin to feel the shake.
