I can see her at the local Stop-N-Go now trying to get a pack of cigs or something and starting to hand the money over in her left hand while trying to grab the pack with her right. She’s thinking “If I can grab the pack before the clerk can grab my money, I win both!”
Note that anything someone sends you via US Mail (<- Note!) unsolicited is a freebie. This rule was added back in like the 1970s because of scams where you’d get sent something and then billed for it.
The DVDs clearly do not qualify for this since they were purchased.
My friend called with an update. GF has apparently decided that she will pay for the DVDs. But she isn’t happy about it - she feels she has been pressured into this, against her will.
My advice was considered “insensitive” (I tried to be tactful - didn’t use terms like “cheat” or “fraud” - but it’s clear I failed.) My friend has come in for some rather harsh language as well, but he reports that as of this afternoon, peace is returning.
She is contemplating leaving negative feedback for the seller. I think this would look rather silly (“He shipped the merchandise too promptly”) but I intend to stick with my resolution not to offer further advice.
