Oh, and what Nation do you live in? You have given out personal info here to prove a point. So have I. So has every claimed lawyer, etc etc. Profiles can show location, and so forth.
Instead, why not just posters not be a jerk and pore obsessively over the SDMB for a cheap gotcha?

Some here have said that both are lying and maybe trolling.
I have grave doubts. And the same posters who have played amateur Mod/Detective here could obviously do the same.
Keep in mind the admission of trolling was post banning. So it had no input into the banning.
But we’re pretty far off the subject of the OP at this point.

I think you misunderstood that. If D’Anconia had gone to the troll thread to post his accusation of lying, it would have been refuted there, and that would have been the end of it. It would never have been moderated, because despite your preferences, it is within the board rules to accuse other posters of lying in the pit.
And, you know, if you spend a lot of time in the pit accusing posters of lying because of small and immaterial differences in their back-stories, people are going to judge you for that, not the posters you “unveil”.
fwiw, I think both are lying. I just think that one is a small, immaterial lie that doesn’t matter. The sort of lie I don’t usually make, because it’s more work for me than to tell the truth. But the sort of lie that doesn’t really affect my judgement of other people.

Sure. But one sort of lying has the motive of being a troll and pretending expertise you do not. The other has the motive of protecting your identity from being doxxed and the inevitable internet harassment. I think the second motive is ethical and moral.
That account was made in 2011 and had over 600 posts, all of which were made in 2014 or before until the last one. In one of their earliest posts, made eleven years ago, they said that they were Martin Hyde. That’s either one hell of a long game or it really was them.
