strange things are afoot at the Circle K

Cecil mentioned this in a column:

**The K, circled K, and the circled U are all meant to indicate the product is kosher. **

Is the Circle K chain, brought to national prominence by the excellent adventure of one Bill S. Preston, Esq. and one Ted “Theodore” Logan", kosher or kosher-related?

Only other thing I can hink of is a weird monogram of OK.

Anybody?

I don’t know, but on a trip to LA a few years ago, my friend and I drove out to San Dimas and went looking for the Circle K. It took a while to find it, but it was worth it. There’s no phone booth there, though.

did you try the phone next to O.J.'s white Bronco?

are you referring to the lonely mojave phone booth?

I think he’s referring to the phone in the background of the picture, next to the white truck…

Well, since they definitely serve microwave cheeseburgers and chili cheese dogs at Circle K, I’d have to say no.

Ohboy. This is pure memory here. But here goes:

When the late Fred Hervey purchased 5 El Paso convienance stores run by the Misenhimer family around 1952 they were named after one of the most popular members of the family: Kaye.
They were identified as “Kay’s” or “Kaye’s” surrounded by an oval. Hervey changed the logo to the simple K surrounded by a circle. He would go on to expand the chain to 12 states when he sold it to investors around 1982.
Circle K # 1 & 2 are long gone. Circle K #3 still lives at 1201 North Stanton Street in El Paso.
So nope, nuthin Kosher there.

Is that some kind of ultra-clever slur against Cecil? Not in my thread, you boob!
