Stranger moves in, redecorates while woman's on vacation

A story on CNN today

Have you ever seen anything this crazy? The woman even moved in her own washer and dryer.

That is positively disturbing!

It’s like the evil criminal version of “While You Were Out”.

I’ll bet that poor woman is too scared to try vacationing again for a while!

She’ll be back!

For her washer and dryer.

Note to self - before going on vacation, find a house sitter…

Wow, that’s totally nuts.

Boy, that’s one bad mugshot.

Hey, new carpet!

Always look on the bright si-ide of life
Doo doo, doodoo doodoo doodoo.

New washing machine and dryer too!

When I bought my house, the utility companies would not let me sign up unless I provided proof that I was the legal owner of the house. At the time I thought this was an incredibly stupid policy, but perhaps this house-napping business is common in the south.

Many times utilities will not deal with renters, for fear of getting stuck when the renter moves out. With this policy, it’s up to the landlord to collect utility payments from the renter.

Some people will not pay their utility bills for two or three months before they move. It would be too easy for someone to not pay, then claim to be a new owner or tenant and have the utilities turned on again.

A co-worker who owns a house down south had a tenant who put it on the market claiming to be him. It might have worked if a neighbor who knew the co-worker hadn’t seen the “For Sale” sign and called him asking about the property. Turns out the tenant had signed a contract and was near closing the property as Mr. Co-worker. Got charged with fraud and attempted theft.
