Anyone else have illnesses or conditions that get worse under stress?
I have three that are really mild, and most of the time I don’t even think about, but for the last week, have been making me miserable.
Hypoglycemia, migraines, and IBS.
I woke up with a migraine yesterday, and it’s really rare that I wake up with them. Usually they come on in the evening. Anyway, I get nausea with them sometimes, but treating the headache with sumatriptan usually makes the headache go away. This time I woke up, and actually threw up. And no, I don’t have the virus! It’s over now, and at any rate, I had no fever. Got another headache today. Rarely, rarely get them two days in a row.
The IBS has had be taking imodium every day. I’ve had weeks like this before, but when I was younger, and wasn’t careful about what I ate, because I worked crazy hours, and slept crazy hours, and drank way too much coffee.
I had one blood sugar crisis where it dropped to 47, and several where it was in the 60s. And I’m watching what I eat. It’s completely stress. I’ve only had one test where it was above 90, and I haven’t been able to catch it above 100, even if I check 10 minutes after eating.
It’s not helping that my dogs and my son are both stir-crazy. The dog is getting lots of walks, but she isn’t going to daycare twice a week, where she runs around a huge gym and lawn with equipment, and two dozen other dogs for 8 hours. She senses something is going on, and has ramped up her “guard-dogging.”
The boychik is a teenager, and doesn’t like to admit there is a world outside of his room, but he really was getting out a lot, riding his bike, and spending more time with friends than I realized, because I was preoccupied with how much time he spent Skyping. Now that he’s home and doing eLearning, Wow, is he here, a lot.
I love him, but teenagers and parents, I think, have a biological imperative not to spend a lot of time together. He’s actually a very nice kid, and it could be a lot worse. I mostly feel sorry for him. But none of it helps my stress.
