So how do you all relieve stress? I’m coming down to the wire in my semester of school and my GPA hangs in the balance, I’m freaking out over the rest of the semester and so I’ve been using various ways to relieve stress. Read, mess with web design, stretch and meditate.
No no, Scoundrel Swanswater, web design can be very soothing in its way. That trance-like state, illuminated by the cool monitor glow, watching a page take shape…
(This morning, in a half-dream, I said to myself “I’ll wake up as soon as I close this tag.”)
Web design is to me what painting or drawing is to others. Through the code and the art I create something of beauty. It’s my artistic road. I have no steady hand for painting and I can’t draw to save my life. But the “rigid” (and that is to say: it has a defined language) structure of HTML and CSS allows me to use my two lobes to make something artistic.
I was going to suggest painting, but then I saw your latest post.
However, arts & crafts, even if you’re not great, are still fun and relaxing. Hit your local artsy place that’s cheap (A.C. Moore seems to be around a lot) and try some new things.
I shut myself in my room and listen to music, with the window open (unless it’s bitterly cold and snowing, or storming, or… you get the idea); the air is refreshing and clears my head, and the music calms me down. Or I write–anything or nothing in particular, even just gibberish.
