"Student Bodies" Appreciation Thread

(Inspired by the hijack over here)

Dear Lord, I loved this movie as a teen. Since it was a staple on USA’s Night Flight, we were sure to catch it two or three times a year. It’s been a long time, so I’m not certain how it would hold up these days, but damn, the memories are good – the horsehead bookends, Toby’s balloons, Malvert peeing red (got to love an actor named “The Stick”) – great stuff. I wonder if there would’ve been a Scary Movie series without this one?

“Ugh…sugarless…I’d like to kill the kid with the gum!”

“Click.”
“Did you hang up?”
“No, I just said ‘click’.”

“Hasn’t there been enough senseless killing? Let’s have a murder that makes sense!”*

Button on sweater - “No.”

Button on bra - "I said “No!”

Oh my word, I used to love this film. I don’t know how many times I sat through it back in the day when HBO showed it twice a day every other day.

I watched it about two years ago and it wasn’t as good as I remember but still definitely worth the 100 minutes or so.

The ending still doesn’t hold up. But it still kicks the crap out of Pandemonium.

The producers of this thread, in an effort to gain the more lucrative “R” rating, has paid me to come in at this point and say,

“Fuck You.”

Every now and then when I teaching, I want to say, “Talking? During horsehead bookends?”

I was in that other thread. My high school teacher played “Miss LeClaire”. I had to look it up.

I’ve only seen the movie once, personally- at about 3am, on HBO, over a decade ago (I stayed up specifically to see it, as I didn’t have a VCR at the time). I was so tired I can’t tell you a thing about it… but I did recognize my teacher.

Damn you! I wanted to do that.

We always did the psuedo obscene phone call bit…

“I said (after you’d have to call back from being hung up on and then go on to mimick heavy breathing), uh huh uh huh uh huh huuuuuuuuuuuh uh.”
We so loved being ‘artistic’ in our terrorizing. What else could you do in fake Jordache? Sincerely.

Horsehead Bookends
I remembered that part but had forgotten the movie.
God that movie is funny.

Mickey Rose, who wrote and directed the movie, actually had a pretty good resume. He wrote for The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Sid Ceasar Show, The Smothers Brothers Show, All in the Family, and several Woody Allen movies.

Kay was a friend of mine. We did a lot of area theatre together. You are from Texas?

I was so disappointed with the movie. I was in final callbacks for four of the roles in the movie (Including the shop teacher. “Horse Head bookends”) During the course of my reading and testing for the movie, I managed to see most of the original script. The only part of the original script that made it to final shoot was the Shop stuff. (Which is the funniest bits of the movie.) If the director/ producer had shot the script I read, I believe that we would be talking about Student Bodies in the same breath as Airplane and Naked Gun. The script was that good. It was difficult keeping from laughing out loud while auditioning. It was the funniest thing I ever read.

That said, I still like the damn thing.
