Hi,
I am a student from Bangladesh in Montreal. I just finished first year of my
undergraduate. A few days back I met a Bangladeshi businessman (he is also a
Canadian citizen) at a party and he is very interested in me and is very
willing to offer me a job at his firm. But I am on a student visa here. I
want to immigrate to Canada eventually. None of us know the immigration
policies well. He also said that he can sponsor me if required.
Is it possible or wise for me to apply for immigration to Canada now with
this job offer or with his help?
If anyone knows the legal issues, please advise on what I should do.
Thanks,
Mo.
First piece of advice - on something as important as this, don’t rely on legal advice from an anonymous bulletin board.
Second piece of advice - get legal advice from someone who knows the law in this area. Since you’re in Montreal, you’ve likely got a few options:
-
Go to a lawyer who specialises in immigration law. Montreal is a big place, there’s likely quite a few. (Contact le Barreau de Québec for a referral.)
-
If you don’t have the money for a lawyer, you may qualify for help from Aide juridique - check the yellow pages.
-
As a student, you may also qualify for initial advice from a law students clinic - try McGill Law School or the Faculté de droit, Université de Montréal.
Good luck - hope everything works out, and if you decide to stay, welcome to Canada!
