This seems to be a fad lately- someone will record two students getting in a brawl and show their friends. The disturbing thing about this trend is that it isn’t a ‘happened to have a video camer on hand when a fight broke out’ but rather an arranged event, with some students finding out what fights will take place so that they can go and record each one.
The main appeal behind this seems to be the humiliation factor of the person who lost the fight- no longer is a scuffle a he-said-she-said affair. A lot of students think that a losing combatant would not come forward to school officials, so they’re not worried about the videoes being used as ‘evidence’ against them.
I feel that in some cases, the fights are between two individuals who already harbor agressive feelings toward one another as opposed to recording random assaults on each other. The video aspect, combined with people posting fights online, has a great potential to encourage this type of behavior.
