Stuff of the deceased

My mom was worried she was coming across as mercenary in the way she was handling some of the financial decisions after his death (cashing out accrued money in her life insurance policy to help finish the house, question wether or not she should sell the new pickup truck for something smaller.) So it sounds like a pretty common feeling. I told her Dad would want her looking out for her own welfare, that he was a practical guy and would have understood what she was doing…and to hell with what anybody else says.

Dad did the best thing possible with their fiances. There’s a small construction loan, but everything else is theirs - ensuring Mom has a place to stay, and a vehicle to drive, and food to eat.

Yeah, I was futzing around with the camera equipment tonight. Of of the items there was a speedlight. I’d always wanted one, but the cost seemed an extravagance. I’m happy that his things will help me get better and take better pictures as a result.

My camera stuff is kept in my office…with the computer…and the Parrot. Bird dust is everywhere, although the cameras ARE kept in their cases. Dad’s stuff coming into the house is motivating me to find a better place for the equipment.

A couple of years ago my husband’s godfather died very unexpectedly of a brain hemorrage as the result of a very minor fender bender.

His wife had brain cancer and was scheduled for brain surgery a week after his funeral.

She offloaded most of his stuff and my MIL ( her very good friend) was distraught at just how fast she did this. I completely understood, as the godmother had no idea the results of her surgery outcome would be and wanted to make sure that the good stuff ( tools, mostly) found a good home.

We were the recipient of a few tools ( I have no idea what they are for, but my husband was happy and guilt riddened to take them.)

When my Mom buys the farm, I have told her for years that I am running her obit in the garage sale section. It would be the most perfect wake and a frugal solution to the $100+ for running some pithy “She’s gone to be with the Lord.” dreck.
