P.S. Has anyone seen Bottlecaps candy? I think the last time I has these was back in the 80s.
A sad start to my Wednesday.

I’m not claiming to have loved this, but does anyone remember
Ayds?
mmm
I got some about a year ago for nostalgia. Maybe it’s been sitting on the store shelf since 1976?!
As an aside, it’s pretty terrible. Stuff my daughter made is already unglued.
The glue - as it did then - dries and seems to flake off. It still has that stick that never reached the bottom.
I came in to mention the same thing. My favorites were the chicken Caesar salad and the Greek feta ones.
…
I could have gone my entire life without knowing that…

You can still find them every once in a while, but they used to be everywhere before. The next time I see them, I’m going to buy a bunch and freeze them, sad on so many levels.
We have TrueLemon packets in the break room at work for adding to tea. I imagine they’ll stick around of corporate coffee/tea suppliers carry them.
From the 70’s: Pepsi Light, which was lemon-flavored.
(Squirting lemon juice into regular Pepsi doesn’t quite cut it.)
bottlecaps are still around. i see them all the time in dollar stores and 5 belows.
i really liked the “paper towel in a tissue box”. bounty rolled them out for a year and then they were gone. i even wrote the company about them. they claimed they weren’t flying off the shelves and discontinued them. after just a year! i though they were the best thing.
Wow, my memory is tterrible. I think the bar I was thinking of was (ironically) a “Watchamacallit,” though I don’t find a photo that resembles the package I remember. (Maybe a difference in Canada.) I remember the change to “Special Crisp,” which Wiki says still exists - but I haven’t seen one of those in fifteen years or so.
I buy both regularly. They also have grapefruit and orange flavor.
Oh, I just remembered another one: Kellogg’s Raisins, Rice, and Rye cereal. Apparently, it was only around for a year or two, but I remember it very well. It was so good!
Also killed by PC and the war on drugs – Hippy Sippy. I still have a couple of the syringes and a bunch of the buttons somewhere.
The old British Knight sneakers people were (literally) killing each other for. They were damn fine shoes and wore like iron. Luckily when Harley was discontinuing their sneakers I stocked a closet with my size.
I had a SW2 and a Vue. I just may go car-less for a few years until someone comes out with something that good again.
Anyone else for Circus Pops? I think that’s what they were called. It was a soft icecream in this toilet-paper-sized tube and the stick had a circus animal or themed top. Once you ate several you could stick them in the ground making a sort of circus train. And at 100 yards with a .22 they made fun shooting. There was also a brand of animal crackers back then I remember as being especially good that came in several different boxes so you could make a train of them as well.
Pretzel Flipz - salty pretzels, covered in milk chocolate. Appeared briefly here in the UK a few years ago, in a shiny blue bag, then disappeared. Wikipedia says they are still available in the US, though.
Also, pop-up headlights on cars. Indefinably cool in a 1980s kind of way, but sacrificed at the altar of health ‘n’ safety.
Heh. I have a 1985 Corvette. The headlights don’t just pop up, they rotate over and up from the hood. Rather like a headlight flip. It’s indescribably cool.
I remember that stuff! I was 13 when it came out and I collected the bottles.
My favourite discontinued things:
Lancome “Hydrative” moisturizer. $45 a jar was expensive-as-hell for a minimum-wage retail worker back in the day, but worth every penny. I nearly cried when the cosmetician told me it had been discontinued.
“LouLou” perfume.
Back in my meat-eating days I loved these little square salmon filets by Captain Highliner. There was garlic & butter, broccoli and cheese, and bbq flavour. Eventually I couldn’t find the bbq one, my favourite, anywhere.
Juicy Fruit, Doublemint, and Big Red gum in the foil-wrapped strips. Now Juicy Fruit is little rectangles in a blister pack and I haven’t seen Doublemint or Big Red in years.
That’s what I came in here to mention. I used to love the chocolate ones when I was a kid. They went great with ice-cold milk.
I still have an unopened bottle of Coke Blak in my fridge. I doubt it’s any good anymore, but I can’t bring myself to throw it away.
Secret solid vanilla deodorant stick. They still have the gel version, but the solid smelled so good and vanilla-y.
Quisp cereal. I know you can still buy the generic version that’s exactly the same thing, but they don’t seem to carry it in my area anymore.
They still sell it. I love this stuff.
