stuff you should like, but are "meh" about

No, no, you were right the first time. It was published as a limited series not in a graphic novel.

Anyway, along those same lines Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. I like Batman, I really liked Batman a lot more back when this was supposedly so brilliant and definitive of the character. But I couldn’t even get through the trade paperback collection. Way too many pages with like 12 panels of just talking heads, and I find the art atrocious (Klaus Janson on inks could ruin anything, IMO).

Yeah, it was dark and brooding instead of BANG POW ZAP, but it’s not like they hadn’t already been moving away from that sort of thing long before Frank Miller came along.

The Beatles suffer from the same problem a lot of groundbreaking acts do, which is that in retrospect their sound doesn’t sound all that unique and seems riddled with cliches. But none of that stuff was a cliche at the time they were writing it. But anyway, this is a whole ‘nother topic that could take up its own thread. I fully support anyone’s right to like or not like whoever they want, I was just poking some fun at the idea that the Beatles’ entire discography is nothing but trippy drug fantasies.

Family Guy is OK. But I never could get into South Park. And I live 15 miles north of Fairplay Colorado (South Park)

I have a penchant for avant-garde rock music like Frank Zappa, The Residents, Captain Beefheart, and The Velvet Underground. Given this, I should like Pink Floyd. But with the exception of their first album, I can’t stand Pink Floyd.

I’m a classical musician and fan of classical music, but I’m not particularly fond of Mozart - his instrumental music, anyway. I don’t know - I guess I find it too predictable. Not that I think he was a bad composer or anything, just that much of his music doesn’t interest me much.
