Stunt Doubles

For all you movie fans out there -
Do you have strong feelings about use of stunt doubles in movies? Someone told me it ruined it when they knew the actor didn’t do the stunt.
It doesn’t bother me at all to know that Johnny Depp didn’t do his own stunts in POTC; it all looked so cool anyway.
On the other hand I think it was kinda keen [hot today; brain is fried; no time for vocabulary skills] that Viggo Mortensen did most of his own stuff in LOTR.
Any thoughts?

I love watching Jackie Chan because he is so amazing. A lot of Hong Kong cinema is like that.

I have no problems with stunt doubles used well - its when they have to cut so tight or fast to hide the double (or just cause they are going for that look) it is annoying. Watching good stunt work should be like watching dance or gymnastics - long takes so you can appreciate the effort.

(And I do appreciate Mortensen doing much of his own stunt work - but it was very different than the type of stuntwork required to pull off Jack Sparrow).
