Stupid advertising jingles

The radio commercial for Chamin that starts: We’ve always heard that you shouldn’t talk ab out going to the bathroom in public."

No, you shouldn’t be going to the bathroom in public. And you shouldn’t talk in public about going to the bathroom.

Kubrick cut it out of the film, but it was the straw that broke Jacks’ back in The Shining.

The commercial by itself doesn’t annoy me, but now that this thread has been resurrected, there’s a commercial for toy trucks that uses the tune of My Boyfriend’s Back.

The exact same tune is used in the German-speaking world, albeit with translated lyrics. When I heard it in Vienna, you could have knocked me down with a feather.

From listening to Old-Time Radio I know that Philip Morris cigarettes had a profoundly obnoxious advertisement, consisting of The Boy With The World’s Most Obnoxious Voice screaming “PHILIP MORRIS! PHILIP MORRIS!” to a world which mysteriously failed to seek him out and feed him to the warthogs.

Fred’s Tune Up.
Tune-ups, tune-ups, that’s our game F-R-E-D-S
If you don’t come here, that’s a shame F-R-E-D-S
1413 Burlingame, F-R-E-D-S

You mean the Philip Morris Bellboy?

That’s my favorite jingle!

Here, sing along -> 1-877-Kars-4-Kids

See? Just uplifting!

The insidious thing is that all the horrible jingles I remember worked. Because I remember them.

And people wonder why I drink.

Shodan

I find Volkswagen’s “elbow room” jingle supremely annoying, especially after hearing it more than once in every freakin’ commercial break on H2 over the weekend.

The other thing about that jingle are the variations of it: How narration is sung to the same lilt and cadence to the basic tune, but then is ( perhaps deliberately ) discordant…too many syllables.

I don’t watch much TV but while I was a captive audience in a breakroom full of sports fanatics, this super annoying Coke commercial played during every commercial break during some stupid game: It depicted in slow motion-ish style, people engaged in various physical feats with a super irritating “Woo!” uttered every few seconds over the music.

Another nagging question: why are ads shown during sports programming even more inane and obnoxious than usual, as in in non-sports programming?

Because they’re aimed at the ultimate LCD audience? :dubious:

You got it wrong – It’s “Chock Full o’Nuts is the heavenly Coffee”
I know. I’ve heard it a zillion times, and always with that lyric. And I hate coffee.

Mr. Plow, oh that’s my name. That name again is Mr. Plow

[/QUOTE]

And the Mr. Plow jingle was parodying an old Roto-Rooter jingle:

Call Roto-Rooter
That’s the name!
Away go troubles
Down the drain!

When “Stuck on Band-Aid” suddenly became “Stuck on Band-Aid Brand” and they tried to make it a thing by playing the new jingle constantly until they gave up.
