Stupid cat is puking AGAIN!!!

Stupid cat.

He is SO stupid, he doesnt know he doesnt like kids! He lays on his back, legs spread so the kids can rub his belly.

Foolish creature thinks he is a damn dog. He sleeps on the beds of the kids, comes when he is called…etc. I have had him all of 5 months, and he has managed to insinuate himself into our lives totally.

Rotten little bastard.

And now he is SICK again! He got sick in March, spent 3 days in the vets care, x-rays, blood work, barium x-ray etc. They finally gave him an I.V. to re-hydrate him, gave him some antibiotics and sent him home.

They never did find out what happened to make him sick. Nothing lodged in his belly, he never goes outside, no diseases…

He got sick a few weeks later - same thing! Vomiting, diarhea, refusing food & water…he took some more antibiotics, and got better.

The only weird thing he eats is spiders (he fancies himself a big hunter) I even buy the expensive hypo-allergenic food!!

Now tonight, I find 4, yes FOUR! piles of PUKE, and Murphy is again quarantined to the bathroom. He doesnt mind - he sleeps in the linen closet on the towels.

If he dies of some stupid defective system - I am gonna kick his ass.

Stupid cat.

:frowning:

Well, I have five cats so there is always some puke in my house.

However, if this continues to be a problem for even one more day, take the cat back to the vet. It may have been nothing the last time, but that doesn’t mean it is still nothing this time. And if you aren’t sure your vet is handling things to your liking, get a second opinion.

Eh, WAG here. Is it possible your kids are feeding him something that you don’t know about, Snickers bars or something? Fritos? If he thinks he’s a dog and a member of the family, maybe he begs and they think it’s cute to feed him, but “don’t tell Mom”.

My kids think it’s funny to feed the dog things like lettuce and carrots and grapes, which of course come right back out the other end.

Other WAG: maybe he’s been exposed to some kind of bug spray? Are you a big Raid maven, or was your house just treated for termites or something? Even one of those “flea bombs” can make animals sick if they’re sensitive to it. Did you just change brands of flea collar or flea soap? Vomiting isn’t always due to something he ate.

Final WAG, admittedly in left field: did he eat a bottle of chewable vitamins or something? Spilled some pills, maybe didn’t get them all picked up? One of my kids (I forget which one) as a toddler found a couple of overlooked spilled Sudafeds one day and was playing with them, fortunately handed them over when I asked. Geez.

I would try the Science Diet Hairball food for a while, if you can afford it. It stopped mine from puking, but they just didn’t like eating it so I put them back on Feline Maintenance. Then - puking started again. (sigh)

Spiders will make cats puke - they are nasty little critters anyways. Don’t know how you stop it from eating them though.

Good ideas, all of them.

I am nuts about my vet, he is kind, sensitive, thorough…
I trust him completely.

I have a nearly 5 year old, so there is no poison, bug sprays, pills, cleaners - nothing he could get into. I searched the house the first time he got sick. The second time, the vet gave me some more antibiotics and the cat got better right away.

We never feed the cat scraps - the kids are scared it will hurt him (insert ‘awwwwwww’ here). We clean up after meals right away, lest Murphy get into the leftovers.

I have him on antibiotics again, and am under instructions to bring him in if he doesnt improve, or if he starts to refuse water again. There is no diareah so far, so thats good.

Its not furballs. The vomit piles start out pretty chunky, then they switch over to clear green bile.

He is so good. He will stay happily in the bathroom and wont cry and yowl at the door.

His poop smells REALLY bad too.

I wonder if his guts are all working right.

Smelly cat… smelly cat…what are they feeding yoouuu…

Could he be diabetic? Has he been checked? Has he been losing a lot of weight? Urine smell really bad also? (well wait, it’s cat urine so it always smells really bad) I’m not a vet, but this sorta sounds like a friends cat that turned out to be diabetic.

I hope your poor kitty is OK, kelli!

Una

There’s really nothing like after a late night partying, waking up to the sound of your cat puking in your bed.
she does it all the time. i’ve found the only thing i can really do is haul her ass to the bathroom and wait til it’s over.

in fact i was never really concerned about it til i read this. oh my god. my poor kitty is a diabetic.
oh well. i wonder if Friends is on.

My cat yacked on the floor …
Then he yacked on the bed …
And once when I was sleepin’
he went an’ yacked right on my head!

I got the blues …
Them low-down cat yack blues!

That no-good fleabag
yacked in the middle o’ the hall
I slipped on my way to the bathroom
and cracked my head on the wall!

Yeah, I got the blues …
Greens, pinks an’ purples tooooo
(What has that <censored> cat been eating?)
Them low-down cat yack blues!

I want to go home and kiss my kitty on the head and tell her I’m glad her occational vomits are once a month or so.

Good luck with Murphy, keep us updated!

I had a cat that had the same symtoms as yours, really (no, really) smelly poo too. They never did find out what was the matter with him, all his panels came up negative. Then it happened again a year later. He finally got weaker and weaker and…:frowning:
He was really quite old though…
The most important thing is to keep your cat hydrated-at least that’s what the vets told me. I’m not really sure how we were supposed to do that…they were up to subcutaneously before we threw in the towel.
I hope your kitty gets better.

Thanks guys.

Murphy is only 9 months old. He heaved up 2 more puddles of bile before I turned in, but nothing overnight (well not before I left for work) He is still eating and drinking - so thats good.

I am mostly worried that he has some sort of defect, and that it will kill him. The vet was extremely thorough the first time he got sick. He did everything. He gently tried to find out how far to go - I told him: You do whatever you have to, just make him better. He did ALOT of tests, for leukemia, a whole bunch of other blood tests, the x-rays, stool and urine…

He couldnt find anything.

At first he was pretty sure it was feline leukemia, or poisoning of some sort - all tests negative.

Then he turned his focus to the digestive tract, thinking he might have swallowed a string or some such thing, and it was lodged and infecting the system - again nothing.

Finally IV fluids, and antibiotics. He got better, but maybe it was because what ever was doing it had passed, maybe it was the pills. I dont know.

He was lonesome thins morning, and cried for company… if he hasnt puked again when I get home, I will spring him.

He is so loving - he rubs his head against you (marking with scent?) but he gets so excited that he drools at the same time, leaving wet smears

He lets me hold him like a baby too. And he doesnt mind taking pills!!! What a cat.

It sounds like you’ve tried just about everything already, but… have you tried testing for food allergies?

I had a friend with a kitten in similar shape. At first the vet thought it might be Crohn’s disease, but all problems went away after my friend put the kitten on a home-cooked chicken and rice diet. If you haven’t already tried that, why not give it a whirl?

Did you recently change the flavor of cat food?

This happened with a cat of mine and we finally learned that he was allergic to the chicken flavor of a particular brand of cat food.

Actually Diane, this is the food the vet recommended after his first bout(expensive hypo-allergenic stuff). He has been thriving on it for months - glossy goat, healthy skin, bright clear eyes. This cat looks like he is in great shape! When he is sick though, he looks really bad.

If it was allergies, it would be more often I would think… Murphy would love that diet though… he once snatched a chicken leg right out of Frankies hand - as he was eating it! (now we lock him up when we eat chicken)

I will keep the allergy thing in mind though. Thanks.

nod the naughty is the queen of regurgitation in my house. she eats… this is the term the vet used, “inappropiate items.” she really loves to chew plastic. sometimes the plastic would get a bit stuck and she would end up throwing up a few times in a row before stopping. we have to be really careful with bags and the ilk. could your cat have something that he likes to chew that could irritate his tummy?

when nod goes into one of her bouts i leave a lot of cups, bowls, and glasses of water around for her. she has taken to a margarita glass and only wants water in that now.

I’ve got three cats and one pukes all the damn time. I’ve aasked the vet and he said that she probably eats too fast as it comes out all chunky. she doesn’t eat anything else and it’s not everyday, but she does puke a lot. maybe she’s afraid of something when she eats. my cat is afraid of EVERYTHING but the damn dog. I don’t get it, she runs from me when I’m walking around, but will force the dog, who is 5 times as big, to move to get close to me to be petted. screwy cat.
