Brilliant idea, Coca-Cola. Replace the traditional, iconic red cans with a special holiday can, about the polar bears. I’ve got nothing against polar bears, but why did you make your cans white? You know what else comes in white cans? Diet Coke.
So I went by the vending machine at work the other day. It’s a Snapple type, with a glass front and you see the product, then select the id code. So I look in, “What? They’ve replaced all the Coke with Diet Coke. :smack: Grrr.”
Same thing today. Went to machine. Slots normally with Coke have white cans. Grrr. Wait. Didn’t I see last weekend in the stores that the regular cans were replaced with polar bear cans? That were white? :smack:
At least I got my Coke, but sheesh, way to confuse your customers.
I thought I heard on the news a couple of weeks ago that Coke was abandoning the polar bear cans for this very reason. Maybe only our local Coke franchise.
And just to bring this full circle, I reached into a cooler the other day to get a Diet Coke, which is the only type I drink, and came up with the non-diet version instead. Fortunately I noticed the difference before I opened it and was able to go back and replace it with an actual Diet Coke, or who knows what havoc may have ensued.
I grabbed one in a meeting room last week and blech, my god I can’t believe I was addicted to that stuff for 20 odd years. (of course at that time I couldn’t stand the taste of Diet Coke so, you know)
Yeah I’m pretty sure the news was making fun of people who can’t tell the difference between silver and white cans just the other day. Now Coca-Cola is supposedly pulling the cans from shelves.
I would like to point out that the white can is about 30% silver.
It’s not that I can’t tell the difference between the two, it’s obviously a holiday can, but given the colour scheme I would expect that it is a holiday DIET can.
I just wonder what the hell the design team was thinking. Like it would have been difficult to keep the can red and just put the white polar bears and snowscape at the bottom. No confusion, and mission accomplished.
I don’t pay attention to what Diet Coke cans look like beyond that they’re silver. The other day for maybe the third time since I’ve worked at my job, I went to the minifridge in one of my coworkers’ offices and put my fifty cents in the jar on top and opened the fridge to get a coke. At first I was shocked, and heartbroken–nothing but Diet Cokes! NOTHING! But then someone clued me in that the ones with the polar bears were real Coke. Whew. I agree it’s a stupid marketing decision.
We have free soda in a refrigerator case at work, and last week I kept wondering why they had no Coke and only diet. I read about this fiasco over the weekend and finally had one today. Know what - it tastes different.
I’m glad I have plenty of real red coke at home until this blows over.
Diet Coke cans are silver? :smack: Um, okay. Regular Coke should still be red. Dammit. (Oh, it’s Diet Dr Pepper that is white cans. White, silver, we get the color scheme. Real colors for real versions, diet colors for diet versions. )
They’re still pretty similar looking if you’re just reaching into a case and grabbing one. On top of that, we also sell Cherry 7up which looks very much like a regular coke if the can is turned around.
