Stupid computer question.

I am playing a really old game of mine on my current PC, the game plays fine (it’s a turn based RPG) but the animations are too fast to even see. Is there any simple way to make the game think my clock speed is slower? I don’t want to actually change the clock speed, of course, or do anything major to my computer.

The game does think the clock speed is slower - that’s the problem.

Something that might work is to run programs in the background.

There are several programs designed to slow down PCs for old games. Try this link: http://www.techtv.com/extendedplay/cheats/story/0,24330,3307218,00.html

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try them tonight after work.

Well, you didn’t say much about what kind of computer you got,
but you can find stuff at download.com to slow it down. That’s a shareware program site.,
they got everything you can imagine there.

You also might check for patches for your game. I once reloaded Wing Commander 2 on a new PC that was considerably beyond the original specs of the game. Spaceships and whatnot flew past me so fast it was ludicrous (Ludicrous Speed!!!). A patch was available for the game that allowed it to be run on quicker PCs and all was good.

Also, and I haven’t seen this in awhile now, some PCs used to have a Turbo button that would halve the clock rate on your PC by turning it off. This was specifically there for this very reason. However, most programs now adjust themselves to only run up to a particular speed (if necessary) so those buttons seem to have gone the way of the Dodo.

I had that same problem with an old copy of Zaxxon that originally ran on an IBM XT. I tried to run it on a 386 - The game was over in about 3/4 of a second, as my 5 ships crashed into the wall before I could do anything.
