Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

Getting shot can actually be good for you:

But it gets better:

Yes, that’s a blessing, all right.
Maybe someday it will dawn on you that there’s a double curse, too - that your father is an irresponsible dumbass, and that he’s allowed to have the means by which to almost kill your mother.

No, wait, there’s a third curse - that you’re as dumb as your daddy.

No; what?

I was thinking “another stupid gun idiot” when I read:

http://www.cbs2iowa.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/man-dies-hunting-accident-32840.shtml

My reaction quite changed when I read the followup:

http://www.kwwl.com/story/27714497/2014/12/27/update-iowa-dnr-confirms-fatal-hunting-accident-saturday

Instead it was her scumbag relatives who couldn’t be bothered to teach a young girl proper gun handling techniques.

Maybe they don’t know much about guns themselves. It’s not like they own a gun store. Oh, wait…

Then maybe it was quite simply an accident, the kind that happens no matter how careful and experienced you are, the way carpenters occasionally lose fingers to circular saws. Regrettable but it’s gonna’ happen from time to time.

When was the last time a carpenter brought his 12-year-old daughter to a construction site and lost her finger?

US woman accidentally shot dead by boy, two, in Idaho Wal-Mart

Means nothing. That two-year-old could just as easily have beaten her to death with a baseball bat.

Or an alcohol.

Or a swimming pool.

It looks like the proposal up thread for mandatory gun safety classes will have to be extended to nursery school :dubious:

Here are a few common sense principles to live by:

If your handbag contains a knife or other sharp object, don’t leave it within reach of your two year-old.

If your handbag contains a can of mace, don’t leave it within reach of your two year-old.

If your handbag contains a fucking LOADED HANDGUN, DO NOT leave it within reach of your two year-old.

That poor child’s life is ruined. Forever.

2 year olds are out of control nowadays!

Sooner or later

I just noticed the story here: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/walmart-shooting-mum-veronica-j-4896721#rlabs=3

Interesting that it shows up on British media. Perhaps it’s too routine to grab the attention of U.S. media.

Moral of the story? While it was smart of the parents to give their 2-year old a gun, he should have been enrolled in better gun-safety classes. (Some will say kids should wait to age four or five to learn guns, but with 3- and 4-year olds being shot down by older siblings routinely, how can it be too young to learn to practice self-defense?)

snerk

To quote Archie Bunker, “Would you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?”

There is a long Straightdope thread on the 2 year old shooting his mother:

where interesting facts that were pointed out including that she was a scientist and she was carrying the gun in a new purse (with a concealed weapon pocket) that her husband had just gotten her for Chistmas–which he thought would be more comfortable than wearing the gun nestled at her side).

That’s all very well but it doesn’t the fact that putting a handbag with a gun in it next to a toddler is no more dangerous than putting a handbag with a car in it next to one, and we still have cars, amiright or amiright?

An example of careless/wreckless use of firearm(s) in Houston: Whilst a husband/wife were standing outside their home watching fireworks, the husband suddenly fell to ground dead of bullet wound to top of head. The couple were basically just standing there in their yard, then death-from-above from who knows where (and WHY???) Here’s a link to a 'summary’which contains links to two other sites for probably better details.

I hate when folks fire aimlessly into air. You do NOT pull any trigger unless you know your downrange area is clear of others. FUCK, I hate that kind of crap that mindless idiots do, often while hooting and hollering like they are orgasmic.

If you are saying that the bullet came from someone firing into the air and that the wound was on top of his head, none of the stories say this. They only say that he died of a head wound from a stray bullet.

Some of you people don’t seem to realize that accidents can happen to anyone–even police chiefs:
