Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

Like he said, you never know where something might happen.

Unless you’re the *cause *of it.

FYI: while the extent to which the Washington post leans left is open for debate, their opinion pages include very conservative essays on a regular basis is not. Both George Will and Charles Krauthammer are regular contributors. Which is why you see so many Conservative campaign ads saying “The Washington post reports XYZ” when in fact its just a quote from an OP-ed written by some right wing shill. I don’t know Califano’s politics, but just because he appears in the Post’s opinion section doesn’t mean he’s a lefty.

Do you think that airport security would have been charged (or even arrested) if they had dropped him on the spot with a couple of rounds to the head?

They might have gotten a warning on their file at the most, I’m thinking.

Yah. Personally I would be much more afraid for my life seeing that guy waking around an airport than I would be with a 12 year old playing in the park with a pistol. Just saying.

He’s white, so, maybe, yeah. Except that may be why they didn’t do it.

I think the article was written by LBJ’s top assistant on domestic policy. A lot of people would say that LBJ had a fairly liberal domestic policy.

Yep some cops are racist and tend to kill black people in situation where they would not kill white people. Just like cops will go to protect white neighborhoods during a riot and drive right through Asian neighborhoods where the riots are occurring in order to get to those white neighborhoods. Between the two, I’d rather be left to fend for myself than shot in the back, but knowing that when the shit hits the fan, they will be left to fend for yourself, a lot of Asians have chosen to own a firearm.

WTF? Do they fly through the Atlanta airport on the way to the Asian neighborhoods?

Damuri, that was even more hysterical (in every sense) than your usual fetishist ramblings. So congratulations, I guess.

Give it a moment for some actual thought, and then tell us - isn’t this guy *asking *to be shot by cops who reasonably feared for their lives? There’s not even any need to ask if it would be more likely they would have, too, if he’d been black.

I fail to see the humor.

Your loss, man.

I was just riffing on the off topic comment about the racially disparate exercise of police power based on race while trying to tie it back into the whole right to bear arms motif. But you probably knew that.

In Virginia, he would be arrested for brandishing. You can get arrested for brandishing for letting the outline of your gun show through your shirt while carrying concealed. I don’t know what the rules are in bumblefuck or wherever this guy is from but the cops around here generally give a hard time to idiots. Sure it drive a lot of those idiots to move to bumblefuck but everybody seems to be happier that way.

I’m not going to defend this sort of idiocy. Carrying a weapon like that is obnoxious. If otherwise pro-gun white people feel threatened when a black dude with a Malcom X T-shirt stands outside a polling station with an AK-47 pointed at a safe direction then it is equally understandable why people might feel uncomfortable when some idiot walks around town (or an airport) openly carrying a gun like that.

This is like farting in a full elevator just to prove you have the right to do it.

It’s fucking Georgia.

You can get arrested for NOT brandishing.

In Texas, getting asked for your ID while brandishing is the same as being considered a terrorist.

There’s some room for debate about that. :dubious:

I do not believe this to be true, especially because VA is a strong open-carry state. I live in VA and have my CHP and haven’t heard anything similar to what you’re describing.

Larry Pratt, head of Gun Owners of America (feel free to skip ahead if you’ve seen this sort of shit before):

At least he’s honest about it.

Strange. Most products that aren’t designed to kill, but end up doing so, are quickly redesigned or withdrawn from the market. And it only takes a handful of kids!

It’s a question of product failure; a gun that couldn’t kill anyone would be quickly redesigned or withdrawn from the market. :stuck_out_tongue:

But how do I know for sure that my gun will kill someone?

[evil grin]
