It wasn’t Jesus who said “You can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.” It was Al Capone.
We already have effectively a federal ban (the 1934 National Firearms Act and the 1986 Firearms Owners Protection Acton) to prevent every knuckle dragger from having machine guns. The slippery slope did NOT kick in when they was written. The Clintonistas and the Obamunists did not seize all the guns everywhere. So maybe it’s time for a few more controls.
The usual arguments such as “too soon to talk about it” (it’s never time to talk), don’t politicize it (it was political as soon as the NRA turned radical), Slippery Slope To Communism, etc etc don’t work anymore.
The refusal to consider ANYthing at all is selfish egregious bullshit.
Thoughts and Prayers all around.
Yes it did. Then we had the AWB, which would still be in effect if it hadn’t had a sunset clause. And now they want to ban/restrict pretty much all semi-automatic rifles. If we haven’t slid down the slippery slope, it’s because gun owners have clawed their way back up by their fingernails.
Well, then, you better gather up your arsenal and go prevent the government from visiting tyranny upon you.
Courtesy of the Taliban, children are shot for going to school in Swat.
Courtesy of the NRA, children are shot in school in the USA.
Both the Taliban and the NRA are terrorist organizations populated and popularized by people who are so firmly fixed in their evil beliefs that in their fetid little minds they rationalize away children’s lives and try to convince the world that they are on the paths to righteousness and rights.
As of this writing, the incident at the veterans’ home is still going on. It’s currently 8 and 1/2 hours ongoing. Authorities are saying the guy is a PTSD victim who was being treated at the facility’s mental health care, and he was recently asked to leave the program. The three hostages are all employees of the mental health office.
Well said.
“Then we had the AWB”? You do realize that it more than half a century between the two, right?
If we are going down a slippery slope, it’s the shallowest slope there is.
And who is “they”, in your comment, exactly? And what do you consider a restriction? Do you consider that Dicks sporting goods will no longer sell the AR-15 to be a restriction to be fought against? Do you consider florida requiring you to be 21 to buy a gun, and a 3 day waiting period to be an unacceptable restriction?
Of course, the AWB had enough support in congress for it to be renewed. It just didn’t have the support of the speaker who refused to bring it to the floor for a vote, so if you are clawing at anything, it is the basic concept of democracy.
Ogdam copycats
Of course, only being charged with a threat, I would guess her guns are safe from seizure. For now.
Student brings gun to school, predictable results result.
In the wake of the florida shooting, and the national conversation about what to do about gun violence coming to our schools, it is suggested that teachers start carrying weapons.
Now, as a former student, I thought that was a terrible idea, however, if I were a current student, I would think it’s even stupider, and if I am being told that my history teacher is now in charge of my safety, that’s not acceptable, I’m bringing my own.
It is poor logic, but it follows the same logic that arms the teachers, so it really cannot be faulted in students. they are being told that they are not safe in their schools and classrooms, and they are not going to accept the teacher as their protector.
Road rage incident leads to the death of a young woman after a good guy with a gun uses his legal weapon to shoot and kill her.
Despite the story being updated recently, that incident was more than 9 months ago.
Yes. It says so right at the very top of the story. And?
It should be noted the accused has a permit to carry. How many times have gun rights defenders right here on this board said CCW permittees are much less likely to have a bad day and kill someone for no good reason? So much for that canard.
Less likely, not never.
I like to hearken back to the arguments against Biometric Gun Locks - you know the thumb print lets you fire it thingie … much the same way that you unlock your goddamned iPhone? Anyway … we can’t have that because it was found that, in an emergency, they may fail as much as 1% of the time and that is just way to much failure to put up with. Can’t have it. Nope. If it doesn’t work 100% of the time it isn’t worth it.
Well, if 1% of CCWers fail, and someone dies, that is just too much failure (and death) to put up with. I suppose we should just shut that whole program down. If it isn’t 100% it just isn’t worth it.
Their rules, not mine.
I’ll believe they’re a good idea when all police use them.
Wrong goal post you moved there.
