Guy claims the car thief clutched at his waist, leading the car owner to fear that the thief was armed. Thus fearing for his safety, the car owner shoots the thief nine times. The thief turned out to be unarmed.
Now, given: 1) that police can be excused for shooting anyone who poses the vaguest threat; and 2) that citizen crime fighters can go start trouble with people and then gun them down when the encounter goes bad (at least n Florida); then, the shooter in this case should be good to go, right? He’s been charged, but there’s little chance he’ll be convicted. Right? That’s the way it works?

Oh, come on! That plays no part in how gun rights supporters see these cases. You know the NRA will dispatch Dana Loesch to defend the shooter any minute now. Sure, the shooter is a black guy, but he was defending his property and his life. Defensive Gun Use all the way! Come on, NRA! This is your wheelhouse. If Loesch is still too busy with the Philando Castile case, maybe Ted Nugent can handle this one. You can always count on the Nuge at times like this.
Yeah, I’ll be waiting for all the “Police fear for their lives cause a guy went for what could have been something, so they shot him” people to step right up and defend THIS guy, who faced the exact same situation. Right? He was entitled to shoot at the guy 9 times because he was afraid, right?
He left a witness. Big mistake. The police know better than to let a witness survive the incident.
