Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

Whoever owns that gun should be prosecuted for manslaughter.

Fully support this - let people face consequences. Screw the “they’ve suffered enough” crap that normally gets spewed at times like these.

Come on! A gun owner can’t be held responsible for what other people do with his/her gun! That’s completely un-American!

Despite being a “law-abiding citizen”?

And anyway, if the kid hadn’t found a gun, he’d have found a knife or a swimming pool or something anyway. Guns don’t kill kids, *kids *kill kids.

I suspect he would have eventually found his way into the garage on his quest for candy, and then used the car to run over his brother.

“You’re making me nervous,” Holmes is heard saying
“It ain’t got no clip, bud,” the other man is heard saying.

And now Holmes is on life-support…

A kid shoots his friend on Instagram live “while they were showing off money and a gun”.

Your opinion?

The couple in this “news-ish” story is a Facebook friend-of-a-friend. The TL;DR version is that the couple, who apparantly ran some kind of “tactical supply” business (now closed and deleted from the internet), was arrested and at the same time investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies. The couple said the FBI, SS, ATF, DHS and local agencies all took part in the arrest and the subsequent home “raid” where their “assets” were siezed. Their Facebook postings were to complain about this unfairness and to advertise their GoFundMe account so that they can hire a lawyer. They have since deleted their Facebook accounts.

My question is ‘what is/was this couple up to?’
Illegal gun sales?

Can someone “read between the lines” in this obviously wildly hyperbolic “news story” and offer an opinion about it?

From the story: “Devyn Holmes, 26, and a woman were playing with two handguns.” Playing. With handguns.

“The US state of Detroit”…?

Well, yeah… they’re so cool. You can hold them sideways all gangsta and shit.

They misspelled “Despair”.

Truly the finest journalism the prefecture of London has to offer.

Was Devyn’s middle name Marvin, perchance?

This is one of those cases where the pedantic language is relevant. A “clip” is a string of rounds clipped together to facilitate loading. As opposed to a “magazine”, which is an easy-load box of rounds. Obviously there was some serious gun ignorance going on here. Ignorant people should not be allowed to touch firearms. Of course, the mass-shooter types are non-ignorant of guns, so that still leaves a problem dangling.

It’s a free paper - they can’t afford fancy frills like editing and fact-checking.

NRA board member Ted Nugent is at it again.

As an aside, has anyone here ever read the book We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families about the Rwanda genocide? It explains how men on the radio convinced thousands of average law abiding people to kill their neighbors. And the Rwandan genocide was done mostly with machetes and improvised clubs. You have to be pretty committed to the cause to hack your neighbor to death with a blade. In the US, thanks to the NRA, we can all kill each other at a distance. When the men on the radio start barking orders, their followers can grab their ARs and tactical gear and strike for freedom.

No follow up needed now.

To anyone who may have been interested:

I continued to talk with interested parties on FB about this couple and the event that they claim transpired, including one of the primary parties.

This led to a veritable rabbit hole of “preppers”, “survivalists”, “individualists”, people with very strong religious and political views, a collection of odd and assorted individuals that use false names, and groups with odd (or hidden) acronyms as on-line ID’s.

Of course, the story as presented in the article “takes some liberties” with the facts of the situation, but I’m satisfied that:

  1. The issue will eventually be resolved in the way it is needed, and that

  2. These are folks are ‘mos-def’ folks I don’t want to associate with.

Not-so-stupid gun news. A federal judge rules that AR-15s and large capacity magazines do not fall under the protection of the Second Amendment, and states can ban them on a state by state basis.

On the grounds that they’re military weapons? Wasn’t that what the Second Amendment was originally for?
