Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

So you think that’s all we do? punch paper? You still living under the rock?

So you shoot actual people?

I’m sure the paper targets shoot back.

Neither did theirs.

There are facts to support a lack of faith in the proficiency of LEO’s. And that’s *with *training and discipline.

I am not an LEO or gun owner and I have had no gun training, so you may take my opinion with a grain of salt. But IMO there are two common-sense aspects to weapons training.

One is being able to accurately hit what you are shooting at. I have no doubt that a firearms aficionado who spends several hours a week at the range can score better than your average LEO on this.

The other aspect is knowing what you should be shooting at and when. There have been a few notable failures, such as the news item most recently added to this thread, but it’s the failures that make the news. I do not know if gun enthusiasts get any training whatsoever in defusing a volatile situation, identifying a threat, and evaluating whether deadly force is legally justified, all things that I would expect LEOs to be trained in.

And I’m sure that it is as easy to identify the “good” paper targets from the “bad” paper targets as it is to tell with people.

Do you ever have a bad paper target holding a good paper target hostage? Do you ever have good paper targets running around in a panic, possibly running through your line of fire?

Are some of the paper targets actually your allies, who are also shooting at the “bad” paper targets?

That is true there. I forgot about that but when it comes to shooting that’s different and they don’t get trained enough for that. They need the army to train them in that area.

Given the propensity of some American police to deliberately shoot innocent people, the alleged insufficient target practice is not necessarily a bad thing.

You mean the spray and pray method?

A well-regulated militia?

Something like that. More like the swat team.

My son is in second grade. This weekend, we got an email from his school informing us that a girl in first grade was killed in an accidental shooting Friday night. I see in the news this morning that the girl and her family were apparently visiting another family when one of the girl’s siblings found a loaded gun and shot her in the head. Six year old girl.

I know I mentioned this before, but when my brother died last year and we went through his stuff, we found a loaded gun under his bed. This was a home my children visited often, and my son loved playing video games with his uncle. I’ve thought about that often, and about how lucky we are that it wasn’t my son or daughter’s name in the paper.

All hail the mighty gun.

This is where the gun supporters come in to say, “Oh, that would never happen to me. I’m a responsible gun owner.”

And there’s an irresponsible gun owner. two different people.

Everybody is a good guy with a gun, until they’re not. Everybody is a responsible gun owner, until they’re not. Ho hum, another dead kid. Thoughts and prayers. Merry Christmas.

Gun deaths in US reach highest level in nearly 40 years, CDC data reveal

Probably fake news.

If a week ago you had asked the guy who owned the gun that killed that girl, he would have said he’s a responsible gun owner.

What constitutes “a lot of time” at the range? What would be your minimum threshold for that?

That makes gun nuts more effective shooters when they decide decide to kill some innocent schmuck, or group of innocent people.
