Don’t people do that with 1911’s?
IIRC the Remington 700 was accused of accidental discharge with the safety on.
Product design defects are possible, they’re very rare but they’re possible.
How many times do you think that happens in a year?
Accidental discharge is almost unheard of. Negligent discharge is very uncommon.
Defensive gun uses measures in the hundreds of thousands a year.
if your point is that we should make sure that people take a safety class or something, I can get on board with that but if you are trying to demonize an inanimate object then I’m not sure that your mind can be changed by facts.
If you mean carrying half-cocked, yes, for the category of people described as fools. 1911s may be properly carried in “condition one” fully cocked-and-locked, with the manual safety lever engaged which (if undamaged) should physically prevent the firing mechanism from moving.
If you don’t think that inanimate objects can be dangerous, then I feel badly for you.
I agree. But “rare” is not “never”.
As per the standard “anal extraction” tabulation methodology.
Well, that is unfair. The study consisted of:
Do you have one or more guns?
___IF “yes”:
______Have you used your gun to defend yourself?
_________IF “yes”:
____________How many times?
Very scientific. Very.
From last month.
A 10-year-old boy was accidentally shot by his babysitter while she was taking selfies with a gun
That article doesn’t say whether or not the babysitter was charged with a crime.
Wait, I thought we just had a stern schooling about how guns do not just go off.
Let’s not muddy the water here. The reason the gun went off “unexpectedly” was not because no one had pulled the trigger; it was because the person who pulled the trigger believed it was unloaded and therefore wouldn’t go bang. The reporting of the incident does leave a little to be desired, however.
Charged with “injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.” https://abc13.com/5967270/
The offense may be found at Texas Penal Code § 22.04. Injury to a Child, Elderly Individual, or Disabled Individual: https://codes.findlaw.com/tx/penal-code/penal-sect-22-04.html Second degree felony if injury was due to recklessness, state jail felony if due to only criminal negligence. Don’t harm kids (or the elderly) in Texas if you agree to be their caregiver.
The idiot is the boy’s aunt. Guns generally don’t go off by themselves, but most do when you pull the trigger enough.
EDIT: More details in this report from a DFW area station: CBS Texas - Breaking Local News, First Alert Weather & I-Team Investigations
Video shows the moment a Publix shopper pulled out a gun and pointed it at another customer.
I’m sure that guy obtained that gun illegally. Because legal gun owners don’t ever do stuff like that.
But who knows what horror would have been unleashed if that shopper hadn’t been armed and acted quickly. Add another example of “defensive gun use” to the NRA’s tally.
Seems a legitimate DGU to me. What if the 73 year old had ordered the last of the ham?
I’m sure that it will appear in the “Positive Gun News” thread any minute now.
Positive Gun News: 5-year-old boy successfully defends himself from his 12-year-old brother with a gun he found in the bushes.
Apparently, the 5-year-old thought it was a toy, pointed at his brother and said “bang bang” before causing it to discharge. The 12-year-old was taken to the hospital, but the injuries proved too much for him.
Earlier, in that area, police were pursuing some suspected drug dealers who jumped out of their car and engaged in some stochastic orienteering (ran away). It is thought that the gun was probably tossed in the bushes as the suspects made their escape.
(I am wondering whether this also belongs in the Stupid Drug War News of the Day thread.)
Macho gun owners prove their manliness by pointing loaded handguns at their junk:
If they were real men, they’d pull the trigger.
What wusses, can’t even blow off their own genitalia. Fucking cowards, the lot of them.
You know, as a liberal weenie, I know that I would be triggered so hard if the shot their balls off.
Please, please gun owners, don’t go down to the brier patch with your gun in one hand and your rifle in the other. I don’t know if I could take it.
